Just do it! Tell her you found it in the locker room at the YMCA. She'll be wondering what you were doing at the "Y" and soon forget about the watch!!!

I understnad that you have responsibilities and a wife to explain things to, I'm in the same boat. But I'll tell you this, If you can afford it and it's not taking food from your family's mouths then I say Buy a pre-owned one(a good solid piece) and simply bring it home. I've done it with my last 2 Porsches and I never lost a beat. I felt like I was going to end up sleeping on the couch but that never happens in my home. If you need help finding something, I can help in LA. Use your better judgement but honestly, if you feel like you deserve it by GOD get one. If it doesn't work out, you can sell it for the amount you paid and sometimes a bit more. Go with a preowned piece in order to minimize any losses. If you have to unload a new piece you will most certainly lose a bit of your money.

As a single bloke, I'm so glad that my life does not have these complications.
My therefore skewed advice is; it's your money, your bonus - spend it how you will.

Tough one!
I'm not married but common sense would tell me to involve your wife! I think once your married any money becomes "family money" and therefore she should have some say in the decision.
If she says yes, you're fine. If she says no, then go and get it anyway. In the words of Jimmy Carr, it's easier to get forgiveness then permission! |

If you're wanting for nothing and the money is 'disposable' then go for it. I agree that a pre-owned/used may be the best option. You really won't worry that yours is not the first wrist it's been on. It's a great feeling wearing one for the first time.
If, however, the money is better spent on more essential things then it's best to wait in my opinion. You'll get there eventually. |

That's a nice jesture and excellent advice Dalton
As a single guy I don't have the qualifications to advise, but if you have to ask here, then you should already have some kind of idea on how to handle the situation. Buy one for yourself and one for your wife, she will either be twice as mad or love you to death

I was once told....
"It's easier to ask for forgiveness than it is to ask for permission". As for me, I always include the wife. But then again, I have one of the most understanding wives I have ever seen.

1.Did you work hard for your promotion?
2.Are all the bills paid? 3.Is there food in the house? 4.Is your wife and family short of anything? 5.Would the family have to sacrifice anything if you bought it? If you can answer yes to the first 3 and No to the last 2 I dont see a problem just make sure you treat them as well. Oh and as a side note tell the Mrs this always helps in the long run. M |

No, seriously, buy her present she like. Maybe a handbag, shoes, ring, etc for a surprise, then I believe she never complain if you buy what you want. Good Luck!!! |
