Am I Submariner crazy
I have had a WG Sub for a couple years. It likely 20% of my wrist time.
Couple days ago I had a chance to pick up a few pieces I have been looking at for a while. Got lucky, picked up a Hulk, BLNR and a white SS Daytona. I have had a Black SS Daytona for a few years, seldom wear it but having both will be great. Three new Rolex over four days, haven't looked at them for a while. Mostly been spending my time and money on AP & Patek. Obsessing over Rolex for a bit as they are far more affordable. My question is about the Sub. I have the new Green Hulk and my Smurf. WHY do I want a two tone sub so much? Can't decide on the 116613LB or a 116613LN? Which is better, the black or blue. I am nervous if I get the two tone I may not wear the smurf any longer. Thoughts? |

Yes, it sounds like you are Sub crazy but there is absolutely nothing wrong with that.
If I had the money I would love to have the complete collection and hope I do some day. Right now I have the Hulk but would love to add a Black Sub. It would be a dream to add the WG Sub some day too. I think it's stunning. To answer your question I much prefer the blue, but if you think it might have an affect on how much you wear your WG sub the black is a beauty too. You know whatever colour you get it's going to have an affect on how much you wear your other pieces.

Perhaps I may need to put the WG sub away for a while. Starting to find it a little too under the radar. Not looking for a wow piece, that is not the role of a sub. I guess it is becoming just a little too familiar.
Right now I can't stop thinking about the two tones. |

Forget the two tone and go YG! Doesn't sound like cash is an issue.

The 116613LN is my preferred choice.
Although many will say that the blue dial is eye-catchingly stunning (and I agree), I like the black dial because I think it contrasts more with the gold accents. Its obviously personal choice, but go and try each on and look long and hard before you make your decision. At first I preferred the blue but after careful analysis I prefer black.

Buy what's in your means and keep collecting--a rolex does not depreciate very much; especially the sub line :)

Since you have the blue and green covered, I'd go for the black TT for more variety.

Makes most sense. I am a huge Sub fan and got the YG blue dial and later I was looking to add another and I did think about the black dial but I went instead for the GMTc for more diversity and I have really grown to love this watch as much as my blue sub, in fact it looks better indoors, the black and gold combo is so crisp, while the blue sunburst obviously rules outside. So I would also give the TT GMTc consideration.

If you do keep the smurf and still want the TT, I can't strongly recommend the new sunburst enough...the dial is amazing. |

I have the WG smurf and the 116610LN black Sub. Yes I love the Subs to, but after seen the 116613LB IRL on the wrist for several times, I good not decide to buy it. When you see it on pictures it looks stunning. IRL the color of the ceramic bezel does not match with the beautiful sunburst dial. I still wanted to have a SG watch so in this case I did go for the GMT. Also nice for more diversity.

Not crazy but I wouldn't do the TT and the WG sub. Been through that phase myself--I've owned the LVc and TT blue sunburst. Sold both and haven't thought twice since selling them. I love my WG sub. Haaving reduced/concentrated my collection into a few pieces I love, I really prefer having more variety in designs. Most important thing is that you love what you've got. If not, it's got to go...
