Do you bring your Rolex with you when you travel?
Hello all,
Just wanted to hear everybody's take on bringing their Rolex's or other valuable watches when they are travelling overseas, or if they just leave it at home and use a beater watch. My wife to be and myself are going to Japan for our honeymoon in the fall for 3 weeks, and will be visiting 6-7 different cities and rural areas. I'm debating whether or not I should bring my GMT master II to accompany us during the trip and how "safe" it would be (though I've heard Japan is generally fairly safe) Would like to hear your thoughts - thanks in advance! |

Insure, wear and enjoy. Just be smart about your surroundings.

In the UK with one time zone, there would be no point in a GMT if I did not take it whilst travelling abroad. (Aside from the fact that I would need surgery to remove it from my wrist)

I only take one Rolex with me when I travel, the one on my wrist, and it always my SS GMT when changing time zones.

Having travelled extensively around Japan on at least a dozen occasions and my wife and I both wearing various Rolex I can say it's a very safe country. I would wear it for sure with no hesitation. If you are insured and lose it off your wrist or something else causes damage then you are covered but I would be very surprised if theft was to occur.

Japan is one of the safest countries in the world; I wouldn't worry about it. If you happen to mistakenly leave it someplace, 99.9% of the time someone would go out of their way to bring it back to you. I always travel internationally with one of my preferred watches, as part of the allure (at least to me) is to look back and recall an adventure/trip knowing that a certain watch was on my wrist at that time.

Makes no sense to avoid bringing your watch on a trip with you. If you're worried about loss, insure it. Life's way too short.

I bring a Rolex to Western Europe, US, Canada, Costa Rica and the UAE. Some other places I'm a bit more cautious and take along a tier two time piece.

I was in Japan in April wearing my 216570 constantly. Not one worry. Japan feels VERY safe to travel in. I say take a Rolex and enjoy the company and reliability of it.
If you want to look at new ones check out Bic Camera chain stores..amazing range ! |
