Maybe I'm wrong, (I usually am

) But looking at the last couple what are you wearing threads, it seems the Majority of Rolex's that people show pictures of are the "sport" models. It got me to thinking if that family is the most popular here on TRF... or is it the Dress models... or is it about equal?

So let's find out.

If your watch is a Sport model, (Sub, GMT, Explorer, Mil, YM, SD, Daytona) please vote for that. If your Rolex is a dress (DD, DJ, Air King) Please vote for that.
And if you have one (or more) of each, please vote for which one you wear the most.

From what I have read on this forum, many will argue "dress" is formal, formal is leather strap, leather strap dress is Cellini only, not the other ones you have listed. Those you have listed as dress include sport ones.

I personally don't agree with that interpretation so for me, it will be interesting to see what others post.

Blue, you make an excellent point, and I am a Dorklehead for not thinking of it.

Please add Celini to the dress section.

Sports for me as well since my idea of dressing up is to tuck in whatever shirt I happen to be wearing inside my jeans.

More sporty than dress, but mine can be worn either way, the Sub being more casual, the DJ takes it up a notch and the Explorer straddles. You see? There is no clear distinction !

Fashions change over time

While the DJ / DD (Oyster models) were originally sport models and Cellini / PP Calatrava was a dress watch, now gold DDs and even steel DateJusts are acceptable dress watches

A long time ago only a pocket watch was considered dressy

Dress watch just rides the safe. Style and tastes have changed for me...I just don't really fancy yellow gold anymore but it was a commemorative piece so it'll stay with me.

Find my sub and even more specifically my Daytona to be dressy enough for any occasion these days. Daytona and Sub look great in a t-shirt or suit so I just stick with those.

I didn't vote because the term "sport watch" means different things to different people; I don't even use that term anymore. What you're calling "sport watches" Rolex calls the "Professional series." Personally I don't see why an Air-King would be any less "sporty" than a Milgauss.

That said, between my Oyster Perpetual Date and my Sub Date, I wear my OP Date way more.

I think Subs can easily fly as a dress watch in most formal situation.. and so do GMTs and explorers. I work in IT and sport models have been serving me just fine.

Just my opinion, but what you are referring to as "sport" are "professional" models. All Oyster watches are "sport" watches. They are not designed for a specific sport, but are designed for the sporting lifestyle as defined by a certain class of individual. They are appropriate for swimming, riding, shooting, tennis, etc. A DJ fits into your sporting lifestyle right with your tweed sport coat. A sport coat is not part of business or "dress" attire, but we do it anyway in modern society.

I generally prefer sports models and love a sports bezel, esp ceramic, which is why I am very drawn to Rolexes.

All I have are Sport references but if it's on PLC or jubilee I see more the option of "dress".
But as I like to say: I feel that any Rolex watch look great with any attire.

I only have a TOG that I consider non-sport line (I know some will still consider this a 'sport' model). The rest of mine are Subs, SDs, GMTs, A Daytona, and a Milgauss.........So I prefer the sports line

I would also argue that all oysters are sport watches. DJ's might be slightly dressier sport watches but it's not a true dress watch. It's an all rounder. A dress watch is a Cellini or something like a Patek Calatrava on a leather strap.
