Can a bumper re-spray cause issues?

My wife was driving her year old Nissan and was hit from behind leaving very minor damage. We went to a highly rated auto body shop here in San Diego and they put a whole new OEM rear bumper... Today when we went to pick the car up the color was correct but a shade or two lighter than the rest of the car. I refused to take the car and they are going to re-spray it.

My question is: Does re-spraying the bumer cause the paint to be too thick? Would it be more likely to crack or wear sooner if it is re-sprayed?

Thanks for any answers, im just pretty annoyed at the whole thing at this point.

as long as the texture remains the same , it should be ok , unless its waterbassed paint , it can flake and peel , but its hard to get too thick as it runs and falls off. also a lot depends on how the preparation was done ,,, but the new paint should have a 12 month warranty, that should get you peace of mind.

Im hoping its a quality job... Its a highly rated shop and the work has a "lifetime" warranty.

I've never really dealt with paint and body work so I appricate the reply sir.

Normally when a part is re painted the adjoining panels are blended to match. In this case both quarter panels would have to be blended to match the bumper cover.

There's also many variables that the repair shop has no control over when just painting one part. The paint for they are using isn't the same as the one used on the car at the factory. Temperatures and air flow also play a big factor. Also the clear the repair shop can be different from the factory giving a different depth or appearance to the repaired product.

I had a great little sport car that was very unlucky. It got hit seven times while it was parked. I would park as far away from other cars as I could and it still got hit.

I had a great painter who could blend the paint so the car looked new. He did the bumpers a couple of times. The factory paint gave out before his did.

Nope is the car silver? They will sand and primer it over you will be fine. They should know what they are doing. Silver is tricky to match they will have to blend it in to match it.

Don't worry, they should blend it with the rear quarters and it'll all look factory and should last just as long

I went by this morning at 10am and refused to take the car so they stated they would re-spray it to get a better match. They just called me at about 415pm and said it was ready again. That is a total of 6 hours of work.

Can a single rear bumper be resprayed and dry and ready in this amount of time? Does this mean they baked it to dry sooner?

Sounds like my car silver blue and rear ended will have to see how it turns out. Color is silverstone metallic II

Yes it can be ready it only takes about 2 hours to sand, prep and repaint it go check it out I think it will be fine now.

Sliverstone?

That's only available on M cars from BMW correct?

I don't know about your car, but when my Prius bumper needed to be replaced it came to the shop unpainted. The painter had to match the existing paint, including sun damage and weathering. Toyota provided the paint data to the shop and it came out perfect.

Yes I saw the OEM bumper arrive wrapped and unpainted. They then supposedly computer match to the existing paint. I'm going there this morning to see if they were able to fix the issue.

Yes 15 m3 I just took delivery end of May. I'm not losing sleep because it's leased thank god.

If I remember correctly, BMW uses a special clear coat that is exclusive to BMW only so if another body shop pants a bumper or something, it will still never match the OEM paint. Could be wrong though.
