RIP Rowdy Roddy Piper, age 61

One of my all time favorite wrestlers and role models, going back to the early 1980s as I followed the NWA via magazines before national pro wrestling was a reality.

I preferred him as a "heel" (bad guy) and his coked to the gills, stream of consciousness style was groundbreaking at the time. Pipers Pit made the wrestler hosted interview segment an essential part of a wrestling tv show, though Piper wasn't the first.

Roddy fought back cancer and evidently succumbed to a heart attack earlier today. He was 61.

RIP.

Bummed.

He was one of the legends when I was growing up as well. Really enjoyed watching him in the ring. He will be missed.

RIP Hot Rod!

A classic...he will be missed.

Sadly, wrestlers don't seem to live particularly long lives.

RIP Rowdy One

steroids, cocaine, alcohol, and painkillers are rough on the body. Mixing some or all of those doesn't translate into a long lifespan.

He was a partner in a restaurant that just opened a couple of blocks from me. Was here maybe a month or so ago for the grand opening and spoke at our local Chamber of Commerce Annual Meeting. That was big for a town of 16,000 people!
