Good Friend of Mines proposed a Trade for my Vintage Rolex. What would you do?
http://imgur.com/b4XuwIy
A Very good friend of mines owns a Tag Heuer Formula 1 with diamonds inside it. I Actually went to the store with him when he purchased it for a little under $4,000. When i showed him my first rolex which is a Vintage AirKing from 1957, he proposed a trade. My AirKing for his tag. I got my Rolex for a really good price ($750). His tag is worth more, but i am not sure if they hold value as well as Rolex's do. What would you do? Take the TAG or keep the Rolex! |

Do not trade him. A Tag with diamonds is still a Tag.

Different watch brands appeal to different individuals..
Tags do not generally have much value in the secondary market as compared to Rolex, but they do have their fan-base. A '57 Air King is a rare animal..

You'd be lucky if you can get anywhere close to $2k on that Tag now. I'd keep the '57 Air King.

Thank you everyone for your replies! Looks like I will be keeping the airking! At first I was a bit iffy because I'm young, so of course I'm going to like the shinier and more gaudy watch. But they sell TAGs at discounted prices in TJmaxx. You won't ever find a Rolex in a TJmax for a reason! I did personally like the look of the TAG, but I feel like the vintage Rolex makes me look much more mature. Going to get it serviced soon and make it brand new again :)! I will keep my first Rolex and maybe pass it down to my children.

Forget about the watch you are trading for, it does not matter in IMO.
It's your first Rolex and it "should" have a lot of meaning to you. And as others have said it's a 57 and not always easy to find. Good move on keeping it and passing it down. Many of us here have regretted trading/selling certain watches in our collection so don't make the same mistakes we did. Think it through and ask yourself, how would feel if you sold/traded that particular watch. Would you be OK with the decision....If so go for it. |
