What is the difference in roo vs novelty...
I'm new to ap... I'm new here... I have searched. I hear people refer to the rocks watch in ballers as a ss novelty but isn't it just the ss roo .01
That was my best example sorry... But thanks in advance. |

Welcome. It is a little confusing I suppose but basically in 2012, when AP announced the new 44mm cases, they announced them as novelties and the name stuck. They are technically part of the ROO family.

Novelty is any watch that AP releases any given year at SIHH. For whatever reason, people keep incorrectly referring to the 44 as "the novelty".
Your example is called the Royal Oak Offshore Chronograph 26400SO. If you go to AP's site, under Collections, there is a Novelties section, which will show you the novelties of the current year (ROO and otherwise). Personally, I really dislike the word.

Just so I understand, ANY new AP watch is considered a Novelty - not just ROO?

So really the rock is wearing a ss roo... The 26400s0...cause there is really no way to tell what year the watch is from by seeing it on TV. I mean they must look exactly the same... And what I'm actually getting at which I think was answered above is although one may be referred to as a novelty and the other a roo... They are by looks the very same watch maybe not model #'s but just appearance... Dial.. Bezel... Etc...
