AP modular chronograph

When will AP make an in house chronograph that is not modular chronograph ?

Also are other AP movement from AP or are they from other manufacturer ?

The short answer is that only AP knows. For now, the integrated chronographs (ROCs and the old Millenary chronographs) have the 2385 movement which is a modified F. Piguet 1185, which is now owned by Blancpain. The Offshores are modular as you have pointed out.

The new Royal Oak Laptimer is an in house chronograph if I am not mistaken? Obviously the price is out of reach for most of us but I have to imagine there is a less complicated in house chrono coming on it's heels. One can hope at least!

From what I understood they are working on one, don't remember where I heard/read this, so nothing guaranteed but it would be surprising if they weren't working on one so I think there will be within 2-3 years, again that's what I understood and nothing sure...

hi, thanks for answers.

so you predict in maybe 2-3 years? i was worried about buying a ROO now if one will come out soon, like in 1 or 2 years.

i have just watched some videos with AP CEO and he possibly hints at same

maybe i should buy a steel rolex now and then get a ROO in a couple of years? or is it not worth it to wait?

thanks again .

i tried to make a reply before it says its not approved i dont think i typed anything bad but i said this :

i just watched some videos on youtube with AP CEO and he also hints at 2-5 years until integrated chrono. i'm kind of worried to buy a ROO chronograph now if an integrated chrono comes out in 2 years and maybe should buy a steel rolex now and wait for ROO update?

or is it safe to buy a ROO Chronograph

(I am talking new purchase not used - i think if buying used it is always safe .)

thanks !!

I say get one at a good price now if you can and want it. Who knows when it will actually come out, what it will do to the pricing, and if you like the looks of any of the cases it comes in.

If a new one ticks all the boxes when it comes out, trade the old one towards it; if it doesn't, you can keep the watch you have already been enjoying for a few years.

hmm that is a good point i guess, just because its new movement i might not like the case as much and i guess aesthetics/feel of watch is most important

plus if i do like the new one more i guess the loss i make trading it in is worth owning AP the extra years

btw it is the gold chrono (2014 model) with leather strap

I'm pretty sure it's 2 years I heard.

I believe that was me. About 3 weeks ago I mentioned that I saw the I high level AP exec state that we should see one in about 2 years. The video was new that I watched. I'm not sure if it was the same one as a poster a few up in this thread mentioned but I don't recall the 2 - 5 years. In the video I saw he said 2 years! I specifically remember because instantly I thought should I hold off on my first AP purchase or plunge in now and start saving for a second!

That's tough to say because you'll never be able to predict demand. For instance, there may have been a similar discussion around the time Rolex switched from making the Daytona with the modified Zenith 4030 movement to the in-house 4130. I'm sure there were plenty of disappointed people who had just bought the Zenith ones. But now, many consider the Zeniths more desirable and more collectable. Now I'm not saying that will happen with the APs, but I'm hanging on to my E-series 25860 ROC just in case

Besides the new Schumacher, I think many of the more limited production APs are in-house, like the tourbillon chronographs.

I had problems with an in-house Panerai chronograph, and as with any other lower production volume (vs a Daytona) movements, there may be teething problems when the new AP chronograph comes out in 2 or 5 or how many years it takes. And as others have pointed out, who knows if you'll like the rest of the watch (case, dial, etc), or the price.

If you see something you really like now, you're better off enjoying it for certain than risk what you may or may not like in the future.

Exactly.
Don't deny yourself some enjoyment just because something 'better' (which may turn out to be just 'different') is due in a couple of years – live for the here and now, not for some future promises.

Agreed, two years could be 3 or 4 with unforeseen issues. Plus the sooner you get it the more you may be able to justify a trade up, lol.
