Lange watches.

Hello

I hope someone can help me with this.

I've been reading a book, a fictional crime storey, and the subject of ticking watches came up. One of the characters has a Lange and Sohn (I think that's how the name is spelt) watch which ticks loudly.

My understanding is that Lange make mechanical watches which would not tick but I've never seen a Lange close up. Can anyone confirm this for me please?

Many thanks

Graham

Why wouldn't it tick?

Well I've never hear a Rolex or PP tick loudly so I assumed, perhaps incorrectly, that Lange watches wouldn't . Am I incorrect in this assumption?

Thanks.

Yep, Rolex and Pateks tick too, when there isn't too much noise pollution I lay in bed listening to my watch tick on the nightstand.

But they don't tick loudly do they!

I accept that if you put a Rolex on something like wood or plastic which can amplify the noise you can hear them, but you can't hear them, when worn normally, from the other side of the room can you? I know that I can't but my hearing is not great.

Of course not. Only if you bring the case up to your ear or have your arm under your pillow etc.

My Lange ticks just fine and is no more or less audible than my Patek or my Rolex watches

My watch box with many watches in it, is near my bed and is completely silent. Even when open. But if I lay a watch on top of the box it resonates like a speaker and is easy to hear. I love it especially on cold windy winter nights.

Depends on how good your hearing is.

They all tick, how audible it is depends on your hearing, and the watch.

I could never here any of my Rolex watches unless I put them right next to me ear in a quiet environment. The same with my AP.

My JLC tt1931 was quite audible.

I know Craig has said his 5167 is very loud as well.

So it's as I thought.

A Lange is no different to a Rolex or PP. If you hold the watch to your ear, or amplify the sound by placing the watch on certain surfaces, you can't really hear it tick in normal day to day use.

Thanks very much for all of your replies.
