For me I've had to dial back size just for comforts sake; although the SubC looked OK it felt top heavy to me. I have no problem with my larger DJII or Black Bay or even the Gran Tour. FWIW I have a 6.5 in wrist. Curious as to the wrist size of the OP (hoot08). For me most of the five digit older models work well as well.

I have smaller wrists as well. The pre ceramic Subs fit me nice with the more tapered lugs. Also the DJs and OPs fit me nice as well. They range 36-40mm. Like you, anything over 40mm generally doesn't look right on me. I have a couple 42mm pieces, but all my pieces from 36-42mm all have a lug width of 20mm. That's another thing to consider.

Lot of great suggestions, just make sure first and foremost to get the watch you want, a watch you are in love with, not just because it fits your smaller sized wrist. Take your time.
I also agree with pre-ceramic sub. ^^
FYi - My wrist is 6.5" (16.5 cm) and I did fine even with a 44mm Hublot (which I am proud to say I no longer own..LOL).

I'd rec looking at second hand dealers for a classic 40mm sub or the 36mm explorer I 114720

my wrist is pretty small at 6.5" but I think the 40mm case still works well.
good luck!

If your biceps would be smaller I personally would find the watch a bit too big, but now somehow the balance is there.......just my opinion.

older ym , springs to mind , or a 75190 tudor , mid size sea master pro , older aquanaut , lots of interesting options , vc overseas older 37mm again some are slimmer than others , i find that helps , i prefer watches in the 36mm bracket these days , but slim matters.

thanks again for all the comments!

Ah but I detest the old Sub's clasp, just looks so tacky! isn't the Seadweller a lot more costly?

I cannot blame the wrist, I am a small man and I usually find everything does not fit properly! :( Plus I am still in my 20s (26 yr old) so I don't feel that some models will be suitable for me.

Right well i have decided to go watch testing again this coming week. I will pop into the AD inside the famous Selfridges (London) and try on all the models mentioned. AD experience review to follow. :)

I'd have a look at the 36mm Oyster Perpetuals. The grape dial and silver dials look fantastic.

I have to try it on at the AD! Then I will purchase from other suppliers once I choose which one is best for me.

I can give it a go but I think Daytonas are a little out of my budget. Only want to spend as much as £4000 - 5000 max on my next watch!

The new Oyester Perpetual (114300) line looks very cool, love the blue dial, and should be a perfect fit for you at 39mm.

Paying hundreds, maybe thousands more than necessary so that I get a little bage and maybe a free hat? Definitely not worth it to me...

I was going to say 36mm Day-date... but that being said, either the 36mm or 39mm explorer I is a great watch!

Otherwise, maybe a 36 mm DJ?

Take a look at Rolex's 36-39mm line up. I have 6.25" wrists and this is the new red grape OP on my wrist. Fits like a glove. It's the same dimension as the Explorer 1 (39) so you could also consider that.
I also used to own a 14060 and it fit beautifully.
Very nice!

I have a 5.5 inch wrist and wear a nonceramic sub. Looks much better than the ceramic. Also I wear a 39mm at so here are pics for you

Had a permanent link taken out of my 14060m

SubC on my wrist

14060M (much better proportions for small wrists)

Aqua terra
