Yellow Gold 1680
I've always admired the blue face Submariners. But this has to be the prettiest vintage example I have ever seen:
The patina on that beauty is second to none. How reliable is the movement in that watch? Would I be crazy if I wanted to wear something like that daily? |

Looks very nice, the 1500 series is the most reliable movement Rolex ever made IMHO if serviced regularly. You can wear everyday but most would not as it rather collectable

Looks like a beautiful original example, from Matthew Bain? The 1570 movement is a workhorse and one of the most reliable movements ever produced by Rolex. I have purchased many 1680's from original owners (many of which had never been serviced) that still kept near perfect time and functioned flawlessly.

indeed the movements in those watches are workhorses! no concerns at all about wearing one as a daily in that respect. however, I am not sure personally I would do YG as a daily, especially a vintage.
fantastic watches I love mine! |

I like the 1680/8 also and have one in my personal collection. Mine has never been serviced and is 44 years old keeping time within 4 seconds a day but it has sat most of its life in a safe. I also think the best movement Rolex ever made is the 15xx caliber.

I love my 16808 Sub but it only gets worn on special occasions now. It is definitely not an everyday watch for me. What I like least about the watch is the bracelet - look at it cross-ways and it gets scratched; and if that is not enough, the Oyster links dent very easy.
In my opinion, the Day Dates are much better for every day wear. While the 18k President bracelets get scratched too, scratch marks are not as pronounced and visible as those on the 18k Oyster bracelets.

Very nice but it's not easy to wear a full gold Rolex sport watch daily - particularly a purple dialled one. Unless you're Liberace...

As JP said, unless you are careful you can dent and scuff this up. If you are in an office setting fine, but if you change your own oil don't :-) Besides that its a beauty.
