GMT can function well for diving but the Sub won't give you a GMT hand. Get the GMT if you want the 24 hour hand. It's less expensive as well.

I've a friend with a 70s Pepsi who was told it was a diving watch when he bought it in the 70s and has dove with it ever since. If that's not enough for you to make a decision then you likely aren't ready to buy.

Normally, I would choose a Sub over a GMT, except for the BLNR. As soon as I saw the BLNR, fell in love with it right away. The Daytona used to be my favorite Rolex Watch. Now, both the BLNR and the Daytona are my favorite Rolex watches.

I have both, I would say if you like the more square shape of the Sub than go for that, if not go for the BLNR. The glide lock will always give the Sub the edge to me.

I went through exactly the same dilemma a year or two ago when I was buying my Rolex as a 40th birthday treat. I must have read every forum thread on the topic and spent every spare minute reading reviews, looking at pictures online and trying both on at ADs. I still could not decide on a favourite. On the big day itself, me and my wife sat in the ADs with both models and, as it was my 40th, the AD cracked open a bottle of Champagne (nice touch!). I eventually often for the GMT IIc (black bezel) because the second time zone function would be useful to me daily - I work for a foreign bank and my boss and many colleagues are overseas. Also, I actually liked the PCLs as I felt it made he watch somewhat more dressy - this was good for me wearing it with a suit at work each day. Also, if I'm honest, I kind of liked it being a bit more "bling" even though I am quite a conservative dresser. I figured "if you're having a Rolex, why not have one that shines"!

Anyway, I love my GMT and will not sell it. I sometimes wish I'd gone for the BLNR but my reason for not choosing this originally was that I felt the black was more versatile.

People on here told me "you'll end up with both eventually" and I laughed and thought "yeah, right". Guess what, I'm about to buy another watch this/next month and most likely it will be the 114060 that I still crave! I am justifying it as a more robust, less formal, weekends and holidays watch. My Wife thinks it is identical to my GMT (she's wrong!) and that I'm nuts, but I can't wait to add the sub.

I predict you will do something similar but either way you can't go wrong! Good luck choosing!

GMT is water proof to 330 feet, plenty for most people, even divers. Plus you get the GMT function. However if you are a serious diver and wear wet suits the glide bracelet on the Sub will be a better choice, GMT does not have that.
