They are allowed to buy one Rolex yearly at cost...about 35% off

I have many friends at the AD, the salary range is very wide, remember I am talking about Mayors, and they sell a lot more than Rolex watches

Oh, wow, one/year. Wasn't aware they were allowed to get one that frequently. Is there anything in place that prevents them from flipping?

I worked at one when I was in high school some thirty years ago and got 35% with no tax.

It becomes their property. Although likely frowned upon, unless it was in a signed document, I really don't see what could prevent an individual from selling their property.

Yeah, I assumed they could do as they please as well. I was just wondering. I once offered someone to buy using their discount (knowing they weren't going to purchase one, and obviously give them a cut while at it), but they were so hesitant (felt like they might have got in trouble if they did that) that I didn't ask more details.

They're usually Jewelry stores - most pay on commission or give a salary plus commission.

They are not Rolex employees and so any discount on Rolex or any other jewelry would be a Company decision. I'll bet that those policies are vastly different between Dealers..

First World Problems! - I've only gotten one watch from an AD, and it wasn't a Rolex. It was a Tudor. I mainly use them because they have fantastic espresso.

you are talking about flipping for what? 10k max once a year. its not a huge amount of $$. plus how many rolex are worth $35k+ and how many AD staff are buying those? for them to buy a $10k watch and flip it to make maybe $2k, i dont see it as a problem.

keep in mind the store still makes $ on the sale even with a 35% discount. watches have large markups from wholesale to retail.

If you can find some that beat AD prices, feel free to share that info :) On average I save 20-25% on ADs compared to trusted sellers :)

So at the most we are talking about the AD making 3 percent on that watch, if the employee is allowed to purchase it at 35% off.

well then it is less than i thought. that said, i am sure other companies have larger markups with the less hot selling watches.

its 6% in florida but remember you get a 35% benefit from the discount so:

it's 4% effective here or 6.5% effective in chitown

Assuming there is a sales tax in that state, why wouldn't they pay it? It's a sale and being an employee doesn't change that

diamonds are essentially worthless. yet are sold for astronomical amounts due to debeers. they aren't rare at all.
