Rolex Red Sub Tiffany
I recently came across a 1680 Red Sub Tiffany and was hoping to get some experts to weigh in.
One thing I am very interested in knowing is how I can verify the authenticity. Any thoughts and advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! |

You can post clear photos of the watch and many experts here will provide valuable comments. Looking forward to seeing the watch.
Cheers. |

Looks like a Mark IV dial. The surest way to verify the dial as genuine is to purchase one with the original Tiffany warranty paper. While the dial might appear, and may very well be genuine, opinions always seem to run the gamut with these type of questions.

Looks really nice. Dial has good patina developing with replaced hands. Case although had some polished before but looks strong.
Engravings between lugs look correct too with the middle E shorter than the top and bottom sides of the "E". Font looks correct too. Minute markers with some scratches appear normal for a dial of this age due to past servicing. I think it is not really noticeable. I am definitely not an expert but I do like this watch. Looks really good. |

In the first image the pic appears to be stretched horizontally, so the text looked "off." However, in the following pics the watch no longer appears distorted.
Based on the images (excluding image 1) the dial on this 1680 looks good. The hands have been replaced, obviously. |

my 2 cents:
a MKIV dial is inconsistent with a 3.78M case number |

Novice question...
Is it normal for the ends of the seconds ring white paint to be chipped away at the 6 and 9 o'clock areas but not at the 10 o'clock, where some of the marks don't reach to the edge of the rehaut? And is the lume redone, or is that overlayed look normal? |

I think that chipping occurs when a watchmaker removes the dial incorrectly.

Just a question? did Rolex print the "Tiffany & Co" on the dial or did Tiffany? Because I think the "Tiffany & Co" print looks pretty crappy when compare to the "superlative chronometer" and "Officially Certified"

Without original paperwork from Tiffany or from a RSC it will almost always be considered a doctored dial

If you look at modern Tiffany-Pateks stamps, they're mostly of bad quality and sometimes even off-centered... yikes. I agree with a poster above, try to get Tiffany papers with Tiffany watches. |

You would expect to see a Mark VI dial in a late serial red sub but who knows how these were presented to Tiffany. One is for sale over on the vintage Rolex market and at a quick glance the Tiffany font looks the same to me.
I would try to confirm the font with a known example if I were a buyer. |

Whether it is or isn't a Tiffany, still a nice red sub.

Is it just my phone or is the red "s" the only letter that has any white showing from underneath? Maybe I am remembering wrong, but I thought the reds that were stamped over white usually had more white showing through. Did that make sense?
I don't remember the differences in the different MK/dials. |
