Is it unusual for a very late 70's 5513 to have a Serif dial?

Everything I've read (here, 5513mattedial.com etc.) suggests that a late 70's 5513, specifically one from 1979 (serial no 595X), should have a Maxi 2 dial. In some rare occurrences I have seen versions with either Maxi 1 or 3 as well.

However, I came across this 5513 which seems to have a Serif dial. These are commonly found in the mid 2.5 to 4 serial numbers, so I find this a bit odd.

Is it possible that this is an anomaly that was actual made around 79 but using an older Serif dial instead of the period correct Maxi 1/2. I'm assuming it's not a service replacement because that would have more likely been fulfilled by one of the later Maxi's (4/5) or Gold surrounds.

Nothing about the watch indicates there is anything seemingly wrong about it. In fact, it ticks all the right boxes (serial number, patina, bezel, pearl, matching hands, strong lugs, crown guards identical, even period correct bracelet reference VD).

So what do the experts think?

Hands have a odd sandy/dark color to them...the seconds hand looks especially dark.
Looks like a franken/project to me.

Have you checked out Jacek recently I was just at his websight and he's got 21 5513's right now and all of them nicer than that one...

Yes. He has many 5513's. I'm looking for a specific one - Mark 1/2 from 79.

He has one of those with bubbling on the dials and replacement bezel. Not a keeper in my opinion so not considering it.

Plenty of them have service parts too.

I really am scratching my head at the price in general of these things. Rolex made a g'zillion of them and it's a fairly basic and modest watch. They cost a few hundred bucks back in the day, not cheap, but not expensive, any professional person could own one. It's all a bit haywire to me.

I'm with you on this...the "hype factor" is definately in play with the 5513's these days. And the prices of the two gilt 5513's are riduculous in my opinion..so they are in DRSD price range (or higher) now? I know you can ask what the market will bear but this is way out wack...won't see me spending that kind of money although a gilt 5513 was next on my want list..
