I'm in the service it camp. The rate is a little fast for my taste--if it was my watch. Additionally, I would prefer to know it had been taken care of at my discression, rather than being at the mercy of waiting for the watch to malfunction.

I think is better to service at this point (almost 15 years) get a Pepsi insert while you do it, and ask to return the black insert to you. For $72.0 is worth it, I just serviced my 16710 and no regrets.

And I thought you just really had something against me for a reason I didn't understand. I was starting to wince every time I see you quote me. The winder alone wasn't enough, the fact that it had a lot of winding resistance had more to do with it than the winder. The winder did seriously draw my attention to it. The watch is terrific following servicing, fwiw. Considering it was a 16700 with no service history it wasn't a bad idea regardless of the reason.

I agree - if the running time is consistent then just gt a pressure check to ensure it's watertight and you'll be fine.
