Hardest decision of my life
Hello everyone,
After years saving, I finally can buy my holy grail watch - the new Day Date 40- Chocolate dial. However, my wife and my friends always said "with that price range, I should pay little more to get the Patek Philippe 5205R in black dial" They said: "it's too much to wear the full rose gold watch". Please let me know what you guys think? Any advice is welcome I hope all have wonderful weekend. |

You stated that the DD 40 is your grail watch. And, that you have been saving for it. Based on that, get the DD 40. Both are incredibly beautiful references, but it sounds like your heart is set on the Rolex. Good luck!

If you can afford it jump on it and get a quality leather strap to offset the 2 much look when you need to.

I'd go DD
cant believe all your friends AND WIFE know about the "patek 5205R" hell I am a WIS and didn't really know much about it. good company you have! but to me the DD seems the better value proposition and I would not be afraid to daily wear it. wouldn't wear a leather patek every day |

Patek's just don't do anything for me.
So . . . Congratulations for saving for your grail. If this is the hardest decision of your life you must be young! Enjoy your DD40! |

Either is OK, but personally, I'd go for the one I'd been dreaming about for a long time; regardless of what others might say after considering the choice only for a moment.

Get what you wanted; if you get the other and can't love it like you would the DD40 you'll form a resentment towards the advice givers. It's your watch go with your gut. I personally can't see owning the PP but that's just me.

You should get the DD because that's what you want. I'd go with the Patek myself though. No wrong choices

The Patek is finer crafted, more refined, a bit more delicate.
The beauty of the Day Date and really any Rolex is that you can wear it in almost any environment. Both options will grant you a beautiful precious metal reference but the DD40 will take a lot more punishment (intentional or accidental) and will likely last a lot longer before a service is needed. |

Your the person who saved the money to buy the watch and more importantly will wear it. Get what you want and what speaks to you the most. That Patek is a wonderful watch of course, it's a freakin Patek, but that Rolex is absolutely gorgeous and has way more personality and visual depth.

What a problem to have...the decision between a 30k and a 40k watch:)
If if was me I'd go with the Patek...it isn't all gold but man the dial and the layout of the complications are absolutely stunning...to me, President isn't even in the same league. Here is some fuel on the fire for the Patek:) https://www.hodinkee.com/articles/ha...e-pics-pricing I have seen a lot of Presidents and none of them look this stunning. |

Apart from the 5970 or 5170, IMO the model line looks very conservative - boring. DD40 is fresh, healthy and hip. The best is that you can wear it everyday with anything. The only thing I would change is to get the diagonal motif dial, but each to their own. Wear your DD proudly

I'm from another planet. You put in front of me the DD40 with the chocolate dial and the PP5205r, and ask which is the more beautiful thing, I'm going with the DD40 all day!
Anyway, not sure if that makes sense, but point being, putting aside all the context surrounding Patek and Rolex, that DD is just stunning and much more so than the PP in my humble opinion. |

I will get flamed for this but it won't be the first time nor will it be the last. Yes the Patek is in another league when discussing the finer aspects of horology. Some will argue its more refined, it's attention to detail is more acute and so on and so on. The watch is simply boring to my eye however and to 99 of 100 people you will run across in the wild. I look at it and think of any number of nondescript watches out there. Of course there are more expensive, more Exclusive and more elite brands than Rolex, but in the end, everyone knows what a Rolex is and especially the day/date. For me, hands down the new 40 is the ticket and since it's been your grail I'd never look back.

DD40 OYSTER because it's a really every day wear watch.
Swim, snorkeling in the sea, shower, walking in the rain is no problem. You almost forget that you are wearing a watch. My new Cal.3255 gain 0.4 seconds per day, what is perfect in my eyes! I also have a PP 5960 R (gray dial) that I hardly wear. Perhaps strange to say with such costly watches. The Patek Philippe maintenance services only for Complication II (Advanced Level) perpetual calendar, chronograph, are at least € 1500 / US$ 1630 every 5 years. Both watches are works of art ! Both completely different. Good luck with your decision. |

I have always bought watches that i liked the look of.
Forget price and make, go with the one you like best for you this time around. For example, I wouldn't buy either of those even if I had twice the $$'s available.

As mentioned before, get what YOU like, in the end, you will wear it, not them. Both stunning timepieces
