Hardest decision of my life

Patek has never done anything for me either. I think for you the Patek is more of the "flavor of the month." The DD is obviously what you have strived to get.

I also agree. Get a leather strap to change it up when you want.

Buy what you will wear every day and enjoy when you are alone, not what everyone says you should wear in public

DD40 can likely take a beating and follow you for a long-time, my perception with the PP is, likely a little more delicate, and you'll probably be much more protective with it.

Is the PP a manual wind? Someone who owns a perpetual from Patek, which is a manual, said to me he just can't figure out why they'd make it a manual... If he wants to take it off he can't put it in a winder and keep it going if he doesn't want to wear it for a few days, like on a vacation. Resetting it apparently is quite an undertaking.

I have Patek and Rolex in my collection. However I find myself wear the Rolex the most. If you plan to wear it often and daily, Rolex is the choice .

But why not in white gold, since it seems that a rose gold could be too much in your wife's eyes?

So, you've told us the DD is your grail and you've saved for it for years. And, that your wife and others suggest the Patek. But, you've made no mention of your thoughts on the Patek. Do you even like it? A little? A lot? Could you love it?

This is an emotional purchase more than anything else. So, how do you feel?

No update?

Or pics?

Maybe his wife locked him up for not getting the Patek.

Congratulations on going with what YOU wanted.

BTW, are you still married?

Go with what you want. I would also consider resale value, although you may never actually sell this piece.

I didn't comment on this thread when it was first posted. But every time I see the title, all I gotta say is gee, I'm sure there's more important decisions to be made in one's lifetime other than choosing which watch to buy.

Hope you made a decision you are happy with.

Whether we are willing to admit it or not, we all give some consideration to what others think, about our clothes, our hair, our cars...and our jewelry. Some people like to show off, others present a more subtle, restrained image.

I love it when people say "I'm never influenced by advertising". Madison Avenue has successfully merged the visual and aural arts with behavioral sciences to create an industry that works.

Many on the site wear PMs each and every day. Many have said it is the man wearing the watch, and not the watch itself. I agree. I have worn my DD to volleyball games, field-hockey games, backyard get-togethers, etc., all while wearing shorts and a tee shirt. It's just a watch, although a very beautiful one. Follow your heart.

Go for the one that really sings to you. If its the DD that you love, then go for it. I wouldn't worry about what others think (except your wife ;-))....
