Is this date real?

I'm an owner of a 116618lb and a friend received this rolex date as a christmas gift that was apparently purchased 30 years ago. They asked me to help set the date and passed it over to me and it felt very light I had the feeling right away that it was fake but didn't want to insult anyone.

This is the only picture I have. I apologize if this is the wrong forum, could you please direct me to the correct one?

Thanks

There's nothing wrong with the watch the fact a new sub is heavy is a new thing not a vintage concept.

TROLOL it might have an aftermarket dial but it doesn't look fake. Take a picture of the clasp and SN/model number between the lugs. Should be model 1500 and a mid 70s SN or mid 60s if the river bracelet is original

Should there be anything engraved on the back for this model? I remember seeing some inscriptions on the back.

I don't have the watch, it was a friends. It is an original dial they said their family member bought it from 'rolex'. That is the only pic I have.

I fear most people look at the date, if good it's good and if not its fake.

It looks legit to me. And I don't think it's an aftermarket dial, maybe a service dial.

Does it matter that 3 minute marker is missing?
The O for oyster perpetual is worn away.
in Officially the 'LY' are larger font?

Is the "O" worn away or obscured by a scratch? There is a bit of distortion caused by the crystal condition.

You may be right about the distortion

I'm confused Andy, this is the second watch today you claim is fake. The other was the mini-sub, all experts have stated they both look good. Might be best to be very sure, before sending out the wrong information.
