Who do some AD's make it difficult?
Hello all,
I just thought I'd take a moment and share some of my frustrations that I've been having regarding my upcoming purchase of my first Rolex. I've been working with a local AD here in Atlanta about purchasing a SubC 114060. Currently they are 100% out of stock of all Submariner models and claim it may be February before any come back in due to Rolex supposedly being closed. As a result, I inquired about placing an order or reserving one so that the next 114060 that came in would have my name on it. Initially she said that would be no problem but then a week later over email she let me know that she was going on vacation and would have someone call me "whenever" they got one in. Throughout the whole process I feel like I've been having to ask them to sell the watch to me instead of the other way around. Looks like I'll be saving some money and giving my business to one of our trusted sellers. |

They are doing the same thing that many retailers do, saving their limited inventory for their preferred customers.
Since Rolex has already sold their product to dealers who are forced to buy it, Rolex does not care what the AD does with the watches so long as it does not violate their dealer agreement. Foolish? Yes. Which is why you should shop around, loyalty is dead.

If that ad don't want your money then don't give it to them. Plenty of ad and trusted sellers on here to choose from.

I think it speaks volumes that AD's who have no idea about customer service don't have any stock of one of Rolex's best sellers. My local AD has the full compliment of GMT's and Submariner's in their window, but I am guessing that is due to the fact they treat customers old and new like customers should be treated (i.e. they want to make a sale and depend on repeat custom).

Why get frustrated? There are plenty of ADs and other routes you can go to get a watch.

Any of the well known trusted sellers here can take care of doing business with you. you will even save money as opposed to an AD and save on state sales tax. To heck with the AD.

hearing a lot more of these AD stories is not good. I would contact rolex about any misdealing with an AD. it needs to stop. salesmen/women are providing a service to the customer not the other way around.

Bad business... Unfortunately they may just not care because they know the sub will sell regardless of their follow-up with you. Not a way to build a loyal clientele at all!

Only if he has it in stock.
He special ordered one for me and it took much longer....2 days. Unfortunately I've had nothing but bad experiences at major market AD's of late. David was highly recommended and I was very happy with everything. |

I have been to major market AD's and it just seems that by and large they don't care if you buy something or you don't. There are so many people and the economy is moving along at such a brisk pace that they do not care.
And the mention that they may be directing them to their existing client base is likely also true. I buy all of my watches from an AD. A smaller market AD that treats people like gold. I get great prices and even better service. If I called my AD today and said I needed a SS Sub Monday it would be at my door via fed ex and at a nice discount. I live in the Indy area and travel a while a few times a year to see my guy. We have lunch and shoot the breeze (usually about vintage or off brand watches). Sometimes I buy something, sometimes I don't. But I. Always return to buy from him. And to those people that lump all the AD's into one bucket, it is just wrong. Just like most absolute things are usually false. I did pass dm's with David at one point about a watch and I would have most definitely bought it from him. I hope this doesn't come across the wrong way, but I tend to see people making a bigger deal out of ADs than they should.
"working with an AD" makes it seem like some extremely complicated situation that needs serious care and attention. It's really not. It's a store and you're simply buying a product. Yes, it's a relatively expensive product but the fundamentals are the same. I don't expect anything from ADs anymore. The experiences are the same as any store. There are great ones and terrible ones but at the end of the day, it's just another store. There are plenty of ADs around. If the level of service you're receiving isn't what you expect it to be, simply leave and go to a different store. Especially for a common watch. Or if you're open to the idea of using a trusted seller, you'll have a watch within a day or two for less than what you would pay at an AD. Between my father and I, we bought three watches last year. A rolex that came from an AD and two omegas that came from Davidsw.

I have dealt with two different AD's purchasing three Rolex watches in the last two years here in England and I can say that in each case I was treated as a valued customer in each case. Both AD's had in stock the models I wanted (including the BLNR, although I preferred the LN in the flesh).
I see no shortage of Rolex watches in the various AD's I have visited since and not one has hinted that I may have to wait for a particular model. I can only conclude that the difficulties experienced by the OP are particular in North America.

A Sub 114060 is about as common in most shops as the flu is this time of year...
Find a small family owned shop. Get a good deal and wear the Sub like you stole it. |

Just to say it again do this. I feel like I talked to every AD in Dallas when I got my SubC and not a one could touch Davids price (with several not willing to come off of MSRP at all)
When it came time to get my wife's DJ I just called him to start with.
