Hi vintage fans

Im thinking of getting my airking dial refinshed,its silver and half the time i cant read it,so i would get a darker colour change,also i expect i could get lume re done on face and hands which would be really cool.now i know some people prefer original dial with no lume etc as it original and i do,but considering i cant see the time lol,and id be able to wear it 24/7 it seems the way to go.the company is independant but they come recomended and ive seen examples of their work.they are uk based and charge a reasonable price.opinions welcome.

Hi vintage fans

Good morning! Well, first, it is your watch so do what pleases you, not what a forum dictates. If the current state of your dial makes the watch unwearable to you, simply fix Personally, I would look for another dial with a color you like, and get that lumed...then put the original dial away. A different dial solves the problem of destroying the original dials "collectibility" and let's you have a watch with a dial that you can read. I'm a big fan of lume and not a huge fan of patina. Of my vintage Rolexes, both my 1680 and 5512 sport lumi service dials. I have the original tritium dial for the 1680 tucked away. My 1675 has a non glowing original dial, but I have a service dial for that which I will probably put on in the future. I would think a different dial which is lumed would be the perfect compromise.....I mean what good is the watch to you as a watch if you can't read it?

I also think, what good is a watch if you don't enjoy it?
In OP's case maybe it works as he doesn't like the current way it looks.
I dont understand keeping the original dial tucked away because you're worried about destroying it.
It doesn't deteriorate by wearing. More importantly, you are preserving it for the next guy should you sell. I have never understood this.
Why buy the watch if you are scared to wear it?

Not meaning to come off as rude at all, but just trying to give you my perspective, maybe you will end up wearing and enjoying your watch more.

To each his own though.

My comment about the original dial being tucked away was said because some people value originality. I do not, but I would rather have an original dial that I like reulumed than completely refinish a dial. If it makes you happy, you can sell the original dial to finance the operation. I just think it would be easier to find a new dial that he likes rather than finish the original dial and completely change it.
