116610LV - No interest... until now!

I happened to be in Chelmsford (Essex, UK) over the weekend and since I had a few minutes to kill I took a look in the window of Goldsmiths. Nothing particularly unusual on display, but I did spot an LV... and the prompt offer of help from a keen (but not too keen) sales woman resulted in me popping in the shop to try it on. I did stress that I wasn't buying and was just passing the time, but she was very happy to get involved.

Now, I've never been interested the newer, larger cased Sub's, and this all green one has never really caught my eye - certainly no pictures have ever inspired me, but once it was on my wrist it was a totally different story!

It was noticeable heavier than my Explorer 2s (16570s) and I suspect heavier than my Tudor Ranger, but I loved it!

Let's just say that if my numbers come up on the lottery, or I come up trumps on the premium bonds, it won't just be a BLNR I shall be buying without hesitation

All I can tell you is I made a mistake of ordering it as my first Rolex and when I saw it under the super bright lights was shocked at how light green it was..and backed out of the deal and asked for the black version..cut forward to 2 months later and..

No my point is..you need to take time with such a special piece. Yes it may shock you at first but what I came to realise was no matter how well made the submariner is i simply found it PLAIN on black..the green holds my interest and always will. I dont think there are many manufacturers that could pull off a green watch and make it work with class.

I'm not a fan in unnatural lighting but in natural lighting it's a great colour 👍🏻👌🏻.

Then give yourself time..try it on as many times as you can (although in the UK you will do well to find one just say in a window as they usually come in and go out same day)

If you can, do what I did. Buy from somewhere like Goldsmiths, get chatting to the store manager and say you will take it on condition that IF you decide you dont want it you can return it. Dont remove ANY of the stickers, tags etc and just stare at it..for days..in different lights..then make a considered, informed decision based over quality time with the piece. Look at it first thing in the morning, last thing at night etc. Too many times we are pressured into purchasing an expensive piece costing thousands in the time space of what, some 30-60 minutes based under extreme bright showroom light?

If you dont, you will have to flip it and lose over 1k dont make the mistake I did although I just wish I stuck with the green I had back on day 1 :)

I was the same as you. I also didnt rate it under bright lights but my understanding has changed on the piece. I now LOVE that it looks different in many lights. Your picture is the 'classic' look. You will get this look probably 40-50% of the time as this will be the outdoors and low light look. When the light hits it, the almost black/dark green dial pops to bright goldy green and literally transforms the piece. What I am finding is it offers 'something different' at different times of the day and this is what, for me anyway, will retain this piece as a lifelong interest over the black which i got bored with within a month. Yes black is classic, but what is the point in spending thousands on a watch you just stick on your wrist and don't give a second thought about?

Very true. I love it in all lighting now. The above shot was indoors in natural light but outside in the sun it is like a different watch.

As you say from morning, lunch, night time you get various different colours and all of them are amazing. I'm not regretting it at all.

Although I don't have the Batman, just the standard LN GMT but the LV is a nice model to keep switching between.

The LVC is an amazing piece that never really gets boring. As you've already seen under the bright lights, the sunburst dial can appear to be a bright green, but then out in natural light, can almost turn black. A really cool watch and I absolutely love mine!

the batman..was a different story for me. Well, similar in that I instantly saw it once i had it ordered in and said 'no' however that stayed a no for me. For me, the PCLs just DO NOT work on this piece. PCLs make the watch pop and work on something like the Omega Aqua Terra as that piece has a polished steel bezel hence it blends in seamlessly with that. However, with the bi colour batman and the addition of a third GMT hand and heavily numbered bezel..it literally looked like a circus of 'things' happening to me and took away any class or demur possible. The green sub is 'green' but done very differently in that it is one colour consistently and the brushed bracelet simply plays compliment by redirecting you back to the green..rather than competing with it as it does on the batman. My view.
