I'm a box and papers kind of guy.
But would go without for the right price. Currently have B&P on my 12 Rolex, but most of them are from an AD. |

I think it all depends upon the situation. If you find an unusual model/dial/vintage combination without B&P, tags, etc. - and you authenticate it - then the watch is worth owning despite the lack of collateral materials. After all you may only find 1 in a thousand like that watch you want. For me, that was a Root Beer and a Bluesy and more recently a MOP TT Daytona.
Yes, sometimes reselling later is harder. You need to find another like-minded individual willing to forego B&P, etc. But if you are just wanting a modern Sub, or DJ, etc. - something you might find in any shop around the world and just like every other such model - then go for the B&P offers. It'll make life easier - both for your own peace of mind and for easier resale later. Just my 2¢

If its still under warranty, then yes. If not, I really don't care, papers are worth nothing.

Maybe when selling privately, but my one and only TD (well known here) will take any of my out of warranty Rolex with or without papers for the same fair price, as long as they are in pristine condition. Been there done that, many times

So here is a dumb question.... when people say 'Papers' what exactly does that mean? I have a much older Rolex that has a certificate with the serial number punched in it. Newer Rolex comes with an AD Warranty Card, two hang tags, warranty manual, user manual, a sleeve for these things.
So what does 'Papers' really mean for a modern Rolex? |
