Cursed Rolex
Some of you may remember a story I posted a few weeks ago about my friends "cursed Rolex". Well, there is a new element to the saga! To restate the background, a friend of mine bought a stainless Sub about 10 years ago which he promptly lost. At the time, he thought he took it off at a public hotel restroom to wash his hands and forgot it on the counter. I recall asking him why he thought the sink was 1000 feet deep.
In any case, he went without the watch for several months and purchased an identical replacement. Literally just a few weeks after this he found the original watch underneath the seat of his father's car! He then had (and kept) two identical Subs. Fast forward a few years and my buddy is nowworking for USAID in Haiti as a diplomat. Of course, he loses the same watch again! This time, he is changing and/or checking the fluids in his brand new Jeep and surmises that he took the watch off and left it on the washer fluid reservoir while working...forgetting it was there before driving off. The watch was again gone for a few months. Then one day he is driving into the embassy compound and a security guy with a mirror checking the underside of the car sees something shiny. It is the Submariner that has fallen and managed to get perfectly hung up on some engine wiring! Rolex salvaged! Well, fast forward another several months to just a couple weeks ago. My buddy (and some DEA agents) were kidnapped at gunpoint while traveling in the Dominican Republic. Their lives were threatened but they were eventually released. Yes, the kidnappers took the cursed Sub! I told him that, if for any reason that watch is recovered, he should throw it into the sea immediately! |

Ya kinda gotta know this guy. We worked in Cairo together and he is the only guy I know who could go to a formal embassy party and literally come back with a black eye. At that event, He was just having a polite conversation with an Egyptian guy about "how well Egypt is developing economically". The comment that brought the black eye on was "Bullshit, I will believe Egypt is developing when you can all at least make sure there is toilet paper in the damned public restrooms.".
LOL! |

Perhaps he'll find it in his pants pocket later. Sounds to me like the watch isn't cursed at all...quite the contrary. I wish I had one that couldn't be lost.

It doesn't sound cursed to me..... It sounds like your friend is cursed and his very special Rolex is doing anything it can to be with him and find him once parted.... It's like him and that Rolex were meant to be haha

I don't think thats a cursed Rolex. Where I come from we'd say that the money he used for buying that watch is blessed. ie money that he earned after hard decent work. ie... it will never be lost.
Think about it as if the watch is maybe what saved your friend that day when he got kidnapped? ...but it would be more interesting if the watch surfaced again on the internet somehow! haha |

I would probably stay away from both himself and his watch.

I love this story. As an ex-screenwriter, this would make for a great runner. This watch is not cursed, it's a blessing that likely saved his life.

That's not a cursed Rolex, that is a Blessed Rolex (and a careless owner!).
Now this is a cursed Rolex: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/3220253793...84.m1555.l2649 |
