Does it bother you when a salesperson handles your watch?
I admit this may be silly.
At every AD, whenever I try on a watch and leave mine on the table, the salesperson would habitually pick it up, and proceed to either: 1) Wipe it down 2) Examine it I have yet to encounter a sales who can just leave my watch be. A bit of an annoyance, but more interested in what you all think. |

No AD has ever picked up my watch when I set it down to try on another, as far as I can recall. It wouldn't bother me if they did, though.

I like it. The only time it has happened to me is because the guy loved watches himself. I can't knock that!

never had this happen to me
if they wiped it down for me i would probably be appreciative if anything - do you mean they do this with their gloves? i have noticed that whenever they get a watch for me to try on, or when i have given it back, or any time in between, they habitually wipe the piece with their gloves...probably just a habit when they pick up any watch

It depends.
I have friends at AD's that can handle my watches all they like. Others, not so much.

Most ADs that I frequent wipe them down for me. Around 2 years ago a sales associate took my watch and put it in the display case. Guess I keep them in pretty good shape.

At my AD, they put a tray in front of me for my watch. They never touch my watch. When I try on watches and put them in the tray, they don't touch any of the watches until it is time to put them back in the case (at which point they inconspiciously wipe the watches and put them away). When I take a watch in for service, they of course take the watch and give me a receipt for it.

No bother as long as it's a wipe down and gently put back in it's place

Yep happened to me at London Jewelers in Southampton. Very very nice woman, but proceed to pick up my YM2 and wipe it down with a cloth that looked like a snot rag. I blatantly said, "that's ok thank you, I'd prefer if you didn't clean my watch".
She felt embarrassed, I felt ackward, it was uncomfortable. |

No, but it bugs the hell out of me at airport security when I place my watch carefully in the tray for x-ray and then one of the operatives decides for no reason what-so-ever to re-arrange the contents of the tray and my watch ends up crystal side down getting mashed against lose coins etc!
Now I just don't take it off and accept I'll set off the metal detector 9/10 times when I walk through it! |

Most occasions, they spend more time looking at what I have put down than what I am trying on.
I like the two guys I deal with and they treat all of the watches the same. They really like their stock. No issues here, they handled my watches prior to me purchasing them. |

I am good friends with my AD so when I am in there shopping mine usually disappears and ends up back all clean and sparkling after an ultrasonic bath for the bracelet and a scrubbing on the head.

I don't care. If they are intrigued by it, I encourage them to put it on. It's just a watch.

It actually did happen to me. The sales person picked it up, admired it, cleaned it, and gently returned it to the pad on the counter. It didn't bother me at all.

Yes but they ask first. More so if I go in with a vintage on.

I have the opposite problem, I usually have to wipe down their watch with my shirt sleeve or ask for a cloth as the crystal is often murky. No one has ever picked up my watch, I would expect them to ask at least.

Never happened to me. When I visit my AD and they whip out the big green Rolex leather hors d'oeuvre tray with the pieces I requested to see, I plop my Rolex down on it to try the others but they neither look at nor touch it.

Never bothers me if a salesperson picks up my watch. Are they breakable or something?! I went to one of my ADs (deal with them a fair bit) and he asked if he could take my watch for a quick clean...sure I said....he came back 10 minutes later after a quick buff and it looked good as new. Why would I complain?

That happened to me in NYC. The salesman said he'll put the freebies in the bag. I get back the hotel and there nowhere to be found. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

in response to the OT, my particular model is so old/obscure that most contemporary Rolex ADs don't even recognize it as one & thus can't be bothered. |

For a fake, I presume. At an authorized Rolex dealer? And the customer wouldn't notice his watch doesn't fit him when he puts it back on?
