Breeding Mans Best Friend.

So this really p!sses me off when I see the injustice that goes on in the world of Animal breeders.

Take the good old Alsatian (G/S) for example. Back in the '60's it was a stylish, if slightly menacing Dog to own, although generally reserved for men, women as some sort of pen#s extension, or Policemen.

As they got more popular, and the masses started to jump on the German Plebherd Dog bandwagon, the breeders decided that a good GSD should have a tail that nearly touched the ground, a sloping back and long nose.

Nature itself was far less fussy, demanding only four legs and a Gob full of huge bloody teeth....

Now, four decades later, we are seeing the lethal results of the breeders work, and it really ain't funny for the poor old Dogs.

You can buy Boxer dogs, whose faces are so stunted and deformed they can only breathe through their ars# and their combined Noses/ Eyeballs, which is great for de-misting their eyeballs on a cold morning. But hellish when they sneeze, when their eyes do a kind of Yo-yo impression.

The previously mentioned GSD only has to go out on a breezy day for one, or both, of it's hips to snap, leaving the once proud Devil dog to drag itself around like a war veteran. And now prey to the newly 'modified' Corgi, who looks for all the world, like a Puerto-Rican car molesters creation.

Great Danes are Great, but only for Vets who start dreaming of that new Range Rover in their driveway as soon as one enrols as a new punter, and thanks to the ruthless breeding, many other animals have suffered too.

Yet for all this, the so called animal lovers still buy these genetically modified freaks for outrageous amounts of money, and spend the next few years paying for their vanity, and funding the evil b@st@rds who breed irresponsibly. When now you see dogs advertised for sale as GSD/yorkie cross, I have to wonder about the mechanics of the copulation.I strongly suspect breeder intervention either by assisted thrusting, or maybe they just used a set of marigolds gloves and some lube.

Vets and breeders are not supposed to dock tails. Yet I have yet to see a Champion at Crufts with a full tail, yet alone a Grand Champion.Puppy farms are an abomination, a canine version of Mengele style experiments; "hey this is a nice dog, let's breed it with this bitch".... no KC certificate, therefore no genealogy(for what that is worth, they don't care). That is where the hip- dysplasia, progressive retinal atrophy and a load of other congenital diseases appear in todays so called pedigree freaks.

I have an English Mastiff and a Black Lab. Both were from rescue centers. The Mastiff was turned in to the Humane Society to be Euthanized with all of his brothers. Only females of the litter were kept. A rescue center found out and took all of them. They were deathly ill and things looked bleak. I adopted mine and nursed him to health and he is the greatest dog ever. Lab was abandoned as a pup and left to survive with his brother. they were found under an abandoned house. My father has his brother and I have him. Fantastic dogs! I have never and will never support the breeders of the world. I wanted a Mastiff so bad, but couldnt bring myself to support a breeder when there are so many dogs abandoned or sent in for euthanization. It was a sign to me when the Mastiff pups showed up at a rescue center, i was there the next day! Wish i could have taken them all. A lot of breeders have some pretty disgusting habits in their process.

It is a dam shame, Peter. When I bought my dog I wanted a German Shepard that would be suitable for work as well as a family pet. The GSD's in the area were so in breed, over breed and altered that they were enormous weighing over 110 lbs, which is huge for a GSD and almost grantee's hip dysplasia. Their hair was ridiculously long, tails curled almost completely up and there was such a slant in their hips that they could barely walk, let alone run. These attributes make for an uncomfortable, unhealthy and basically useless dog, but it looks quite pretty in the ring, so I guess the breeders don't care much about the dogs well being, just it's ability to impress and win.

After much research, I had to get a Czech Republic Shepard from a breeder several hundred miles away, who was fanatical about maintaining the integrity of the breed. She had the father shipped in twice a year from the Czech republic to breed with two of her bitches for litters.

I see much of the same with Pit Bulls in this area. I think every major city around here as trouble with this breed. They are relentlessly in bred and mis-treated. From birth, they are trained to fight and be mean. It has gotten so bad that if one is rescued is is immediately put down, as the "professionals" in the area feel as though the dogs can never be considered safe because of the in-breeding and almost guaranteed violent manner in which it was raised I deal with lots of calls and problems at work. One of the very top things that personally enrage me the most is when these dogs are fought. more so, is when the dog is older, or a bad fighter and it it used for training purposes for other dogs

Basically, I've never met a bad dog. but, I've come across an awful lot of scumbag owners and breeders

Excellent post Craig and 100% agree with what you are saying, they are
just breeding these animals to a designer label spec now.Its very similar
to the greyhounds in this country. When they are at the end of there
racing careerer a lot end up on the streets as strays.
