I think of all Rolex watches, the 16618 stands out the most. That's why people buy it.

In S/S of everything mentioned, the BLNR has my vote. The large size and blue bezel attract attention. However, it wouldn't be my pick as most attention.

Too many other companies have copied the GMT / Sub bezel, meaning it's no longer instantly recognizable as Rolex. Its size and color will catch someone's eye, but they then need to be close enough to see the Rolex insignia on the dial to know it's not a Seiko.

My pick would be a S/S 116334 with fluted bezel and a blue dial. The blue dial would catch the eye, and the fluted Datejust style is so well known people are going to know it's a rolex (or fake rolex) from a glimpse. At 41mm it's going to stand out more than your usual DJ.

As for least, I can tell you by experience.

I've worn a 114270 every day with short sleeves for the past two months, and the only person who's ever called me on it was a fellow WIS who was sitting across a narrow table with me in a meeting.

That said, a 34mm air-king on a black crocodile skin strap is probably going to get less attention than a 36mm Explorer because of its smaller size and lack of the recognizable Rolex bracelet or Mercedes hands.

I notice most Rolexes as soon as I walk into a room. The first time I saw a 39mm Explorer in the wild I pointed it out to my wife from 30 feet away. It exuded quality. I ran into a buddy the other day wearing a TT DJ2 41mm with fluted bezel. That thing catches your eye big time.

Generally agree with OP. A fluted DJ with a cyclops is going to scream rolex. Anything brushed non ceramic is low key for a rolex.

As far as a Rolex goes,

Most: Daytona, SubC date any fluted bezel Day/Date;Datejust.

But honestly none of these will get as much attention as a 47mm Pam or another huge look at me watch.

Least: Explorer is a very understated watch, most people wouldn't know it was a Rolex.


I think a YM II would get a lot of attention, but doubt most would know it is a Rolex.

However, when I had a 16753 GMT, I noticed some folks looked but never mentioned it.

My collection: GMT BLNR, Sub-C, Datejust II Fluted Blue Stick Dial....Also previously owned black 42mm Explorer.

Most attention by WIS (WIS = guys) - BLNR, hands down. At the moment, guys tend to talk to me about the BLNR when I wear it, although I'm sure that will change as soon as Rolex releases a new SS sports model. But for now, the BLNR is a dude magnet.

Most looked at - Datejust II Fluted bezel Blue stick dial - With the PCLs, super shiny bezel and x-large classic Rolex face, it gets stared at during the day. It literally screams Rolex, which I somehow didn't realize when I purchased it. They honestly should have made this a 40mm, not 41mm.

Least attention - Sub-C (black) - No one really notices it here in Asia (probably b/c so many people have it) which is why this is my proud mon-fri wearer. Classic, quiet and discreet yet somehow still a bold and powerful watch. To me it says "Yes I have a Rolex but I don't care if anyone notices or not." Sea-Dweller says the same. That watch rocks as well.

Even less attention - Explorer II 42 black - I wore this for a year without so much as a single comment. I personally think this is a VERY underrated watch since it has an amazing movement (better than the GMT Master), brushed links, tough as nails since it has less moving parts than the SUB or GMT and is a newer model introduced in 2011. It also has a bigger wrist presence yet still manages to fly under the radar. Why this watch isn't more popular I don't quite understand. Great bang for buck in the watch world as you can probably find one on the second hand market for around $5800 USD. The single complaint I had with it was that it was a little too sporty to wear with a suit.
