Curious about the Difference in the 3 year and the 5 year warranty...
I know there has been some conjecture about what Rolex actually changed in the movement to extend the warranty from 2 to 3 and now to 5 years. I have heard rumors that somthing(s) were changed but it was minor.
Of course, we all know that the Parachrome SPring has been added, but what or why are they warranties now 5 years? It almost makes me want to purchase the ones with 5 year, so at least I'm getting whatever new thing they did... Any info on this?

Nothing new, just a sales pitch. Hardly ever you are going to need warranty on a Rolex. No warranty, 2 years or 5 years would not matter to me at all.
99.999% these things do what they are supposed to do imho

think they realize the watches are solid, and chances are by extending the warranty they will improve marketing and sales at minimal cost
my AD extends the warranty ANOTHER 5 years to a total of ten total, so shows in general how reliable these watches are and how rare warranty work is needed |

I don't understand the question, they chose to lengthen the warranty coverage period.

It's very simple. They do some analysis to show that a minuscule amount of watches need warranty work within the two years, do some more analysis to show that increasing to five won't hurt the margins, and then market that as an advantage. It's all calculated marketing work.

Nothing changed with the product itself. This is supported by the fact that any unsold watches sitting at AD's when the change was announced automatically fell under the new 5 year warranty

Omega bumped to 5, Breightling to 4 or 5, Rolex offering 2 could created the impression their products don't last as long so they upped it to keep up. Purely marketing but given the choice I'd rather have a 5 year... The watch itself is no better but why not get longer if you can?

They have not changed anything except the warranty period. They have exhaustive records on actual warranty work and have decided that there is zero risk to them in extending it.
