Hi all,

This week, I'm meeting somebody to look at purchasing their 6239. I don't have any pics to post so thought I would describe it from what I've seen.

It's a black dial model (silver subs) with a polished "300" bezel and a silver chrono seconds hand. The watch features a non-riveted bracelet and states "T SWISS T" between the bottom of the lower sub-dial, and above the 6 o'clock lumed marker.

The lugs looks nice and thick, and the bezel doesn't appear to have been over-polished. The watch is from somebody I know of and he's a collector, so I trust the buyer and the watch.

My main thoughts are therefore around such a large purchase. This would be my first major foray into the vintage Rolex world. I've owned 5513s, and nearly picked up a 6536 Sub at one point, but the Daytona is a watch that really gets my pulse racing. Hopefully this one was worth waiting for.

What are the overall views and opinions on the 6239? I know a 6240 is a bit more sought after, but I'm not that fussed myself, and anything with screw-down pushers either turns out to be too worn or just not to my liking in some way.

Any help/thoughts/advice/views/opinions no matter what they are would be great. I have books to help me out but after reading that Daytona parts were often changed to help slow sales, I don't know which literature to believe in terms of correct configurations anyway.

I think you'd be wise to take some good photos and post them on here to get opinions before you buy. There's a lot to know about vintage Daytonas and it's a big $ investment.

Unless the guy is a certifiable expert who's beyond reproach, that sounds like a recipe for disaster. He could be a totally honest guy who got shafted when he bought and doesn't know he's passing it on to you.

Agree with the posts above. Always good to check in with the "fellas" here to get more eyes on any vintage piece. Last vintage I bought, I knew it was a great watch, but still sent pictures to several friends to evaluate before pulling the trigger. I would have posted pictures here on the forum but I did not want someone else to grab it...lol
