submariner new movement, when?

I'm looking to buy a Rolex. I have suddenly become a lover. I wish though the Submariners would have a new movement such as other rolex models have. Hmmm. 3130, 3135 are seeming to me as being inferior to the new movements. I'm thinking why should I make a purchase, if maybe in a little while, Rolex comes out with improved Submariner movements. I would feel awful if I missed out on a bettered movement. Do I have just guess when Submariner movement will be improved. Am I just making a big deal about nothing. Are the Submariners, movements 3130 &3135, really good enough now and will hold its own for years to come even if a 32 version comes out. What if you buy a Gold submariner and then a new movement comes out, hmmmm, I would feel cheated. Any thoughts Rolex experts out there?
Thanks,
Qualitylover

If I wanted the watch I'd buy it now. The soonest you will see a new movement become available is at least a year and a half from now. The current movement is a workhorse and with proper service will probably last a lifetime.

Just my opinion, others may vary. Good luck and welcome to TRF!

How can you say that any Rolex movement is inferior movements like the cal 3135 are quite remarkable reliable movements. That with careful regulation could easily match the performance of the so called new movement. So after testing at the COSC Rolex will further regulate the new movemnts to -2+2 wow just a miniscule difference out of 86400 seconds in a day.And new is not always better, with the movements like the cal 3135, they have had almost 30 years of testing and have a very reliable accurate track record.

Yes Peter, the 31xx movements are proven to be very reliable and accurate. The new one still has to prove itself, but knowing Rolex this movement is very likely to be just as tough and accurate and probably even more accurate.

new movements

concerning 3135 and 3130, I'm not saying these aren't good. If I have to choose though it seems to me a movement like 3255 is more attractive, with all its new features. If I'm wrong, please fill me in. Thanks

The current movement in the Subs is a work horse. No issues with it. I would buy the watch I want, wear it, enjoy it and if and when Rolex changes the movement I would evaluate it.

When we are talking about accuracy we are talking about a possible 2-4 seconds is that going to make any difference to any watch wearer unless you have very serious OCD. Myself have regulated a Chinese Seagull ST19 movement to a consistent +2 seconds over a 24 hour period. And it amazes me with its accuracy and more important consistency cost of watch just $60 then. And has been running for now over 5 years but I have had to re-regulate it a few times, but still running strong and its a manual wind. And in the new movement there will still be quite a bit of the cal 3135 inside, the most important feature IMHO with the new movement is the ball bearing rotor,as for extra power-reserve well even 48 hours with the cal 3135 is fine for most.

My Sub Date I bought new last year is running at barely over +1 seconds per day. Loving the accuracy!

You are correct, it will have pretty much no meaning but I think it is for Rolex to show that they are the best. 2-4sec is very accurate for a mechanical watch and my seikos are running at 10-15sec fast a day and personally I do not mind it at all and have no desire to regulate them at this point.
As for the ST-19, mine is also very accurate and it's fun to have a column wheel chronograph at a very affordable price point.

I specifically bought mine now to avoid having a watch with a brand new movement. I love the fact that the 3135 has around 30 years of proven reliability. Also own an Omega Planet Ocean with the 2500C in it. I think they are on their third different movement in that watch within 10 years. I didn't like that, so I went with a new Submariner.

You may be waiting a long time...

Even the old movements like the 1520 are quite accurate and have been around for years and stood the test of time (no pun intended).

I just had mine from 1967 regulated, and it keeps perfect time (perfect enough for me). I don't track it accurately but I'd say it gains a few seconds a day.

No need for a new movement, IMHO. My Sub 114060 is accurate to about +1.5 sec/day. It's built to be a workhorse and it does that well.

Just this weekend decided to 'retire' the Patek 5167 for a Sub no-date. 5167 was my daily wear timepiece yet moved to a more fun-filled climate so plan to enjoy more sports / activities. Thus the Sub is now the beater for sun, beach, and various activities. The 10 year between service is great, 5 yr warranty is nice and the authorized dealer doubles it to 10 yrs (Mayors).

Bottom Line: If you want a Sub just get it. Been looking at a Sub for many years and am waiting on the watch to settle down as she is about -4 seconds a day at the moment.

As others said the movement is tried and true highly durable. Am sure over the years a variety of manufacturing technics has further refined the parts, oils, and construction.

Movement is an afterthought on a Rolex. Not because WIS don't value them, but because they're all fantastic and basically problem/hassle free. Buy the watch you want, now. Don't worry about what may or may not be 'improved'.
