Oris Divers Sixty-Five Blue

Into the Blue.

I have never owned an Oris watch until now but there are a few things I know and like about the brand. They support a number of great causes in Australia such as our incredible Royal Flying Doctor Service and the Australian Marine Conservation Society. They are a relatively small independent manufacturer rather than being part of one of the big European luxury brand conglomerates. Their quality to price ratio is reputedly unbelievable.

Now I have never come across an actual vintage Oris watch that I can remember but I have seen a scant few photos here and there but that's all.

After one of my socks and jocks runs at one of our better department stores I exited into the mall and came across the range of Oris Divers Sixty-Five's displayed in a jewellery shop window. Within no time they are seeking attention on my wrist, black dial on rivet bracelet, black dial on rubber strap, blue dial on rubber strap. Sweet, definitely the blue or Deauville Blue as Oris have named it. It's two tone dial with an inner grey circle and a thick outer ring in a pale blue is rather chic. Very easy to get a good discount off RRP and it's done.

What a terrific package it is. A great balanced case, thin by modern diver standards that sits easily on the wrist. Superbly finished stainless work brushed on top polished on sides. Oris/Sellita automatic movement, okay nothing wrong with that in this range. Simple thin retro styled uni-directional 120 click bezel, handsomely proud big crown, super comfy tropic style rubber strap, stunning dome sapphire crystal that really is a dome unlike many other retro divers that claim a dome crystal when really they just have a curved one. Great lume, And very funky font on the 3,6,9,12. Elegant candlestick hands with a lollipop seconds hand and of course that dial! Okay put aside any cynicism because this watch, unlike many others is not "faux patina". I defy anyone who likes divers and vintage style watches to dislike this watch. Overall a really well considered package. The price, well forget it because you won't even think twice.

Saw one yesterday on display. The dome is great, and the numerals look better in real life (IMO). All that for "just" €1,700. Nice!

I'm normally not a fan of rubber straps, but this is a great combination. How doen the rubber feel and wears?

The rubber strap is excellent, very pliable and comfortable and ventilated. It's a classic strap.

Oris makes unbelievable watches. I've owned one for about 12 years, handed down from my dad. It's a tank and incredibly accurate. It has a nice presence on the wrist and feels quite substantial and masculine. I love the new Sixty-Five Divers watch and you cannot go wrong at its price point.

Solid but slightly unfair comparison review here given that in reality the Tudor is more than double the price of the Oris. They also fail to mention that the cloth strap that comes with the Tudor is almost a bin job but I guess you have to own one to know that. Another disagreement I have is that if any of the three watches is all about faux patina it's surely the Tudor as it's the most deliberate (some think confused) melange rather than the other two that are virtually pure re-release watches, but otherwise a decent read.
