New Daytona C exclusivity

Saw my AD today, chatted watches, he asked if I've seen the new lineup. He tells me that in Basel last month he put in an order for 12 new Daytonas, 6 white dials and 6 black. Some VP of sales said ok, you're order is good, they'll arrive in a couple of months.
As soon as he returns back to NJ his allocation is cut in half, and then only 3 and 3 this year, with the rest not til the holidays, maybe.
He chalks it up to Rolex creating exclusivity, with the rest of the SS Daytonas up in the air.
BTW, he said the watches are stunning, sit beautifully on the wrist, the new bezel is fantastic.

The watch is going to sit the same on the wrist as the current one, unless bezel material and some black surrounds will somehow alter it...

How can you say that Rolex is creating exclusivity for a watch that will be made in their millions. Its not like the Daytona C is a completely new watch the dial they can print in there hundreds at a time. As for the ceramic inserts if you believe Rolex they take ages to make, like they stated once it take 12 months to make a Rolex oyster.

I would really enjoy taking no orders at all for the new 500c.
Then they would arrive in 5piece packs with 20% promo discount!
Ain't demand a b*tch..

Usually a reference with no demand now, will become exclusive and rare after some decades. Not something that everyone wants it and can eventually have it.

Now, now Boyo, you mustn't burst the the collective bubble on this, the chattering classes and the I want it now crowd are already whipping themselves up to a frenzy because they can't and it's not fair. Big, bad Rolex are not playing the game, the conspiracy theories roll in and roll out again. And the Swiss go on holiday for a month in July the lazy sod's, don't they know I want the watch now not in 2020.
Meanwhile the AD's are having a whale of a time creating imaginary waiting lists, every enquiry it's "Yes, Sir you are number one on the list, stay by the phone", it's now payback time for every shitty story posted on the web. The weeks roll by and the tension rises, phones are charged constantly, every call is answered on the first ring until you realise the AD didn't take your number and it's too late, the first purchase has been posted on the board. Some bastard has got in before you, the tears will flow, the rage and disappointment is in equal measure but there's hope of immortality, nobody has given this object of desire a nickname yet. You grab your Hulk for inspiration, dig out those Marvel comics, watch Batman movies through the night, there's got to be something there that'll stick. But nothing comes, no watch and no nickname, you've had enough, you've failed and everybody on the Web knows it. You sell your Hulk as it's green and you don't even like the colour green but 8 people said it'll look good on you, you need a watch though so you stroll down to the Mall and buy an Invicta, they look like a Rolex a little bit and they are actually there to buy and no waiting list. Now, where's the the Invicta forum then?

If I were Rolex I would just coordinate with the ADs and find out realistically which have clients who will almost certainly buy 5 Daytonas plus and then just allocate to them. No sense to irritate people esp now with the power of the forums and social media who will just demonise and mock any fake/forced exclusivity claims as we are already starting to. Pre-social media this may have worked.

I'd say that's pretty good if your AD actually was to get 3 and 3 before the end of the year.

This subject is boring to me.....
20 years ago you couldn't get a glimpse of White Daytona.....like the Wizard of Oz, or Eclipse of the Sun type of thing....
It turns me off....NOT all lathered up to buy.
What's funny is, that in the recent years I've walked into AD's in the USA, and even more in Switzerland including the Rolex Boutique in Zurich, they somehow pull out SS and Platinum Daytona's, Deep-Blue-Sea-Dwellers, GMT-Master-II-BLNR, etc., etc.
If any of these watches interested me, they were ready-willing-and-able to sell them right on the spot!

No surprise.

Rolex plays games with the AD's and AD's play games with the consumers. Will be fun to watch.

"But, but, but you told me I was #1"--I can hear it now LOL.

Your AD is both giving you accurate and inaccurate information. It is accurate to say that he will only get 3 and 3 this year--at the most--but it is inaccurate that you "put in an order" for the Daytonas really at all. These are allocation watches and you can, honestly, say you want 2000 of each and it will not matter. That is not how the buying process works nor is that how the allocation process for the watches work. You are told how many you will get and you can ask for/pay forward for additional in the hopes that you have that opportunity, but that is never a guarantee and certainly not likely.

Unless you work for Rolex or as a major AD owner/manager, I'm not sure you can assert logical reasoning into the current situation.

Agree it is not even a new watch. One new dial and one new bezel. Everything else pretty much same as the same Daytona.
