AP New york

Guys I need urgent help. How can I check authentication of AP watch in new York. They told me yesterday they can check the watch and check accuracy in 0.5 hour or so. Today I talked to other women and she confirmed that they should open the watch to check the movement and that would take 4 weeks as they will send it to florida. So is there anyway to do it in new York as I have no time and can't delay the seller noting that the seller is private collector and not dealer??

I've never tried to do it first-hand - but I find it RIDICULOUS that someone at the Flagship 57th St store in Manhattan cannot simply open the caseback to verify the movement! They are a factory Authorized Store, and a large/busy store at that, and I see no personal reason why this CANNOT be done! Maybe call them and bust their balls a little bit? Good luck.

I know how you feel. Even in LA there arn't a lot of places that do watch authenticity without paying for a whole service and they also don't do it quickly.

That's crazy.
Well, get a 1.40mm Screwdriver, take off 8 screws and the anti-magnetic cover which I recall as being 3 screws, and there you have it! Take a look at the movement!
You can easily tell by the movement. Quite a simple process really.
What model watch, OP?

Also, maybe even a pawn shop could help?
If you go that route: Try Baba Blumkin at New York Loan ;)

Well now I'm confused. The Panda wasn't made in 2016. You mean the 2014 SIHH Black Themes? Black/Red/White dial? That is the "newer" release.

If the classic Panda with white dial, black numerals, red accents - this watch wasn't made in 2016?

The old version but warranty stamped in 2016 which reflect the purchase date. Thus, I see no reason for service. Just waterproofness and accuracy examination would be fine. I think so..

The seller who is a TRF member confirmed with me yesterday the price and we talked about couple ways of payment. I informed him that my brother is coming from Montreal to check the watch at AP Ny and pay you either cash, transfer online in front of him. AND was clear I am doing the transfer tommorow. Now he is telling me he changed his mined because he don't want to go through hassle ie( what if after you receive the watch and something wrong happened) will it be my responsibility?? And such what if. Which actually got me worried that's in addition that some questions he did not replied like has the watch been opened before? The main problem is I already transfered the money to my brother which already cost me when sending and will cost me when receiving and his reply was " I apologise"

After posting this thread I contacted clearwater and told them to find a way to check the watch in NY. She was so nice and listen to all my problem (sending the money already to third party and need to fix the problem ASAP) and told me they will send me email shortly. But i think no need for that now

Forgot to add it was preowned but in mint conditionROO panda on leather band i serial. Actually this guy disappointed me as this is my second try within 3 months for this specific model and each time the seller change his mind after I take some action. The first one was from Saudia Arabia and this time from NY. Seriously I am starting to think that I should give up on this model and try search for another model and more respected dealers.

The seller has no responsibility to you -- if he doesn't want to worry about your special situation, then he doesn't have to. Your circumstances are none of his concern, so complaining about sending money to your brother and everything is useless.

If I'm a seller, I'm going to take the path of least resistance and least risk.

Just go through Takuya or Davidsw and they will find you one, and your brother can freely wire them the money, they will not scam you. You do understand that the fact of you being from Egypt doesn't help for trust, already so many people try to scam you in your own country so a foreign country where there has been turmoil in the past years is not the best thing. So just find a trusted seller as these 2 and trust them

This special situation you talking about was done according to our (buyer & seller)agreement. I informed him from the beginning that I am from Egypt so if he think it would not work he should stated from beginning so he don't waste my time.instead he told me that I should think and decide quickly as there are couple interested in the watch.thus I moved fast. I am talking about how should one feel responsible for his words. So trying to give any excuse for irresponsible actions is refused. At the end it's his watch and his decision and I am the one to be blamed because I should not deal seriously with unknown people
on a side note, I've dealt many times with Egyptian dealers and no issues. The only failed deals was this one and another dealer from Saudi Arabia

In general I would think that pictures of the watch would help, but if the TRF member is a trusted seller than I wouldn't worry too much about it. But in principle, I think it is crazy that AP NY couldn't at least check a serial number and look at the watch and determine its authenticity. Even if there's a small fee like $100 or less. As mentioned before it is a service center.

The ROOs are well faked and even worse frankened with real dials etc so it is very hard to tell if they are real without opening them up, so its best to pay a bit more and buy from a definite trusted seller with all the correct paperwork.

Luv: yes it's wise to clear the serial number before presenting the watch. If it's on the stolen list they'll confiscate it (can happen even with trusted sellers). As for authentication I talked with Jonny at the NYC boutique last week. He's very professional btw. He said they'd ship to Clearwater and I'd get the piece back in addition to certification in about two weeks. $250.

Buy the seller. Next time, pics of the watch, and if it's complete, boxes, both books, matching warranty book, would help. I'd never buy something like this incomplete.

I would go with what the first AP NY employee told you. The on site watchmaker at the NY boutique was at Clearwater completing his training while I was on a tour there in March so he can absolutely do the check. It's a matter of time now ability and should be worked out easily enough by calling in advance. You already did the right thing. Call Carolina of Lindsay in Clearwater to help set that up in NY. As for the rest, but the seller. If the seller is on this forum and well known, they shouldn't have an issue with you mentioning who he is. Ask him and see what he says.

Thanks,
Everett
