DJ2 black or slate dial

Hi all I own a SubC for everyday wear, I'm adding a two tone DJ2 to my collection but can't make my mind up whether a slate or black dial would hold it's price more. The attached photo's are the watches I'm mulling over I like both, it makes sense to purchase the one most likely to hold it's price better. Gut feeling tells me the black dial but the slate seems very popular on TRF. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Before anyone asks I don't like the dial colour options on the new DJ 41....

I've had both. I prefer the black, but the Wimbledon is a much easier piece to sell, so I might be in the minority.

Get yours quick if you want NIB, both are discontinued.

Both beautiful watches!!! I guess I'd still choose the one with the lume weak though it may be. The black is beautiful in it's greater symmetry.

Good point, I also thought about the lack of lume until I remembered my SubC is my daily wear so it's more about which is the most likely better option for future value and saleability. I know the slate version is known as the Wimbledon will that make any difference in 10 years or so

I personally have the slate, the green romans are so subtle but it brings the dial to life. Black is just not my choice for a two tone watch

I don't think it will make an appreciable difference resale wise. If I had to guess the slate is more popular so maybe you would get a little more.

You need to see it in person to understand, but the Slate dial is a Sunburst dial and it puts on an awesome light show every time you move it around. In your image above, that 'bowtie' shape is actually a light reflection that rotates around the dial every time it moves under light. It's part of the essence of what makes a DJ special to most of us, you don't want to miss that with a black dial.

I think the slate is a nicer looking, more intriguing dial.

I own the black dial.
Was very close between the black and the slate.

On the slate, stick at 9 o/c put me off..

The black dial is clean which shows of the hour markers nicely whilst to me the the slate sunburst affect detracts from the markers. The hour markers often don't show up on wrist shots showing the slate dial from an angle or a distance whereas the gold on black looks good close up, from an angle and at distance.

Being two tone, neither is going to hold its value better than the other. They are the same watch, just different dials.

Get the one you like the most. I like the slate, but that's me.

Tough one, black and gold is a great tried and true combo but the slate is very nice and a much rarer Rolex colour.

Very nice watch, personally I like a more balanced dial on an expensive watch, for me the lume marker at 9 breaks up the hour marker continuity making the dial look untidy. Lume isn't an issue for me on a DJII, if I need to know the time at night I'll switch the light on or wear my SubC instead

I've decided to wait for the DJ41 out next month, I believe discounted prices will start to appear around next September/October time. I prefer the Jubilee bracelet and the black dial with baton markers looks nice. I fear the new DJ41 will reduce demand for and devalue the DJII because so many people seem to be of the opinion that putting an Oyster bracelet on a Datejust was wrong without a Jubilee option...

I've decided to wait for the DJ41 on a Jubilee bracelet with black dial and stick markers or at least see if the DJ41 appearing on the market reduces the DJII price...
