AP 15400 Date Change
HI I am considering a 15400. Love the watch. I have heard through these forums from owners that the date function does not turn over at/near midnight. I am wondering why this is the case? Many simple eta watches execute this flawlessly. Why on a watch of this level, with an in house movement not have this capability?

Yeah my 15400 and 15707 changed over give or take 15 mins of midnight. One of those things that is a slight annoyance but the RO offers a lot to make up for it.
I find most really high end items have quirks. |

All of my APs with the 3120/3126 movement change over within 10min of midnight. Doesn't bother me at all.

It’s nothing to do with capability or in-house movements – it’s all to do with how the hands are fitted.
It’s not difficult to watch the point at which the date changes, and then to fit the hands. Just like their regulation, AP really should be paying more attention to these things – but that’d mean it takes longer for each one to be assembled, fewer are able to be made, resulting in a lower turnover and profit. With AP currently knocking out circa 40K units per annum, and aiming for a 1B CHF turnover, don’t be expecting anything to change, any time soon. |

My previous 15400ST changed date somewhere around 00:45, less than 1y old.
I find it funny when people say "these high end pieces have quirks". To be fair - they shouldn't. I love AP, but I wish they would actually become high end eventually. Just look at Rolex... |

Anything more than 10mins and i would be bothered. Is this true with all 15400? Also is this true with all the production series?

Yeah I am little surprised by this. They can take the time to do all that beautiful hand finishing, but not take the time to set the hands correctly? Not sure how this jives with claiming to be "high horology'. Feels like resting on your laurels. Anyhow I still absolutely love this watch and everything else that goes with it, just been thrown a bit of a curve on this one.....

Sounds like an easy fix. Anyone ever had the hands reset by AP service? |

Mine ticks over between 12:03 and 12:05, it is instant though Blink and you'll miss it. With some watches I see that it semi changes then ticks over.

First time I was up and looked at midnight there was no change. I watched like a hawk and found it changes over at 12:04 consistently. Thought it was odd, but I'm asleep then anyway, so I let it pass.

At first I'm thinking this is kind of annoying, why not change at 12. But then again I thought, I never stared at my rolex or any other watch at midnight to see when the date actually changes. So it can't be that bad.
