Questions resale value on Tridor and TT Datejust
While on jury duty about a month ago I met a guy who was wearing a mint condition GMT-Master. It was a plastic crystal and I thought it had to be from the 1980s. He told me that he purchased his GMT-Master in 1968 in Switzerland right after a stint in the Peace Corps.
He got to asking me about how to sell some other Rolex watches he has collected. He has two watches he'd like to sell but has no idea the value. Both watches were purchased but have never been worn. He said they were "impluse" purchases and he put them in a safe deposit box because he loved his GMT-Master too much to take it off his wrist. Both watches are first owner and have all paperwork, inner and outer boxes, and everything else that came with the original watch. The first watch is a Rolex Tridor that he says is about 25 years old. He thinks he paid about $10000 for it originally 25 years ago. The other watch he has is a TT Datejust that is about 15 years old. He said he recalls paying about $5000 or so for this watch. Any ideas on what these watches would fetch? Thanks, Corey |

Nice watches, but he should of used them. The Tridor is worth roughly what he paid for it and maybe a 10-20% premuim if you find the right person looking for a mint one. The DJ is worth roughly 50-60% of what he paid for it. Unfortunately, if he chose some sport models say like a Daytona, or Exp-II, he would of made out very good percentage wise.

Agree with Wolfgang. The Tridors were unpopular...still are for the most part. At 25 years old, it's probably a single quickset. I'd give around $7-8K and wear it for a while. I like the Tridors. Eventually, I'd try to sell it for $9-10K.
If the DJ is really in NOS condition, I'd pay in the high-1K to low $2Ks and sell in the high $2Ks. |
