15400st and 15202st in same collection? Thoughts please

Hi guys, I'm closing in on a 15202st Jumbo 40th anniversary. The issue (if it even is one) is that I have a 15400st white/silver dial in my collection already.

The question - Do you guys think that the both of them can subsist in a collection seeing that they are aesthetically similar?

I know it's a subjective question but it would be nice to hear your thoughts nonetheless. Thanks!

In a large enough collection...sure.

I would likely let the 15400 go after acquiring the jumbo but they do wear differently as I'm sure you know. Might be nice to have the 15400 as a sportier option. I tend to need help financing new acquisitions, so the 15400 would end up being used towards something new. If you're fortunate enough that it's a non issue, they can totally play together

I don't own an AP (yet), but they do look very similar. But if the RO is what you like, why not? It's like owning different variations of subs, explorers, explorer 2s, etc.

I went thru the same thing. Very soon after I acquired the 15202 Jumbo, the silver white 15400 was booted out of my collection. That said, I do miss the 15400 from time to time.

The definitely can co-exist in a collection...however....the jumbo vastly supersedes the 15400, IMO.

I would possibly consider 'turning' the 15400 possibly into a ROO - a much sportier reference.

I'd definitely go Jumbo.

There is a pretty significant overlap, and the reality is I would need to sell my 15400 to finance the 15202. If you are intent on keeping the 15400, I'd be looking at a 5711 instead for more diversity.

I wouldn't have 2 ROs, one ROO or Nautilus/Aqua or Lange 1 instead, unless you are covered already.

My collection is currently:
1) AP 15400st silver dial
2) AP 26320 RG Black dial on bracelet
3) Lange 1

As you can see it will be AP heavy with the 15202 but i've become totally enamoured with the watch! I've been on the look out for a nautilus for some time but am waiting on the anniversary range to see what pops up and am currently unwilling to fork out on the outrageous premiums for the 5711. Not a fan of the aquanaut.

I do, however, plan to add a nautilus within the next 6-12 months.

Would you consider swapping the 15400 for one of the Divers? Similar prices & you can add an offshore to the collection.

I think there is a place for both if you have the funds. Look at how many guys on this forum that has multiple submariners. Get it and time will tell if the 15400 will get enough wrist time to rectify its place in you collection.

I wouldn't have both in my collection unless you are an avid AP guy want want to collect. But for practical reason I say no.

Sell the 15400 and get the 15202.

Add the Nautilus for sure, I'd go for the 5711/1R to match your stunning ROC, and I'd trade the 400 for the 202 as you already have a 41mm RO. Then you'll have an awesome foursome.

Thanks for the responses guys. I'm not big into the ROO's so that option is not on the table for me. To make matters slightly more complicated, the 15400st has some sentimental value to me as well - talk about confusion!

I do not see why not, I have 15400 silver , 15202 and one offshore safari 2014 in my collection.I feel each watch is different in purpose. 15400 for daily work, safari for the weekend, 15202 for the night cassual dress.

I would not. I have a blue 15300 and if I got a 15202 (likely not as I happen to prefer the 15300 at the moment), I would sell the 15300. Even if the 15300 were white, I would still sell it. They are too similar and would battle for wrist time.

Nice work resurrecting a 2 year old thread! Haha, I didn't end up with the 15202 and ventured to Rolex and Patek instead. Still do like the 15202 but if I were to add a RO now, it'd be the 15407.
