While there are no "rules", there are conventions. It's not always important to fit in, and there may be times when it's more fun to buck tradition and embrace your individual style. Someone in this thread used the example of sneakers with a suit. Probably a very comfortable alternative to conventional foot wear in that setting. I wouldn't know. Inappropriate? That's being judgemental and I won't go that far. Unconventional? Without question. If your objective is to call attention to yourself then you will likely succeed. Good or bad, you alone can decide. |

DSSD and a suit is a big no-no in my book.

Rules may change, or perhaps they never really existed in the first place. Conventions however are not so simply defined by whatever personality or celebrity du jour chooses to wear, or not to wear. If the face in the mirror isn't the leader of the free world, or Her Majesty's finest secret agent, then I'm not sure a plastic Timex, or a sports Rolex, is the best choice with formal attire. Certainly not "conventional". |

Agreed. My sub fits under my cuff just fine. I don't think the DSSD would fit well at all. I have a 5001-07 and although it looks great with a dress shirt, typically does not fit under my cuff. I tend not to wear it because of that.

Not really a suit but since I can dress how I want I almost never choose a suit these days. |

I'm mostly a suit guy and can attest that Subs work fine with suits. Especially in gold.

Probably true. The DSSD is the only piece that might be a tad too large for a shirt cuff. It also depends on how you wear your suits. I wear pretty casual suits in the summer. I think people are overthinking it when it comes to what to wear. Wearing a sports watch with a suit could look "forced" or it could look very natural. Depends on how you carry yourself.

Obviously the Submariner is meant to be worn in the water. I wear mine surfing all the time. I also could care less when I go out at night if I need to throw on a suit if it remains on my wrist. Maybe it's because I live near the ocean. I use my watches for sport. I've worn my GMT-Master II with a suit. I had someone come up to me and tell me it is a pilot's watch and shouldn't be worn with a suit at a wedding. I then discussed my time as a flight surgeon with the U.S. Navy for an hour with the guy. By the end of the conversation, I am pretty sure he could have cared less what accessory choice I made. The point is, it's all about the wearer... |

I'm no fashion guru, but I wouldn't have an issue wearing an LVC with a suit.

I like Subs with suits, even the Hulk, but the colors of the Hulk clash badly with a lot of the shirts in some of these pics. When in doubt, don't do it!

In my opinion, a Submariner pairs nicely with a suit.
But, to be honest, if I had the coin I'd rather wear a Lange UP-Down Flyback. Some would say even the Lange isn't apporpiate; Who cares..we're grown men and we wear what we want to lol |

I generally prefer to wear a "dress" watch with a suit but have worn a Sub and a GMT many times.
Mainly when on the road and did not want to pack more than one watch. I traded off my "dress" watch recently so currently without one. Been looking for a vintage Day Date 1803 in YG to wear on straps. Many would argue that a DD in not a true dress watch but it will work for me. I do not wear suits as much as I use to and I rarely attend events where a proper dress watch is needed. On the road tomorrow and Friday and will be wearing suits. I think I am going to sport my vintage gilt Sub on a strap for the trip. The thinner case and profile of the vintage Subs looks quite nice dressed up. Here are some crappy phone pics of sport watches with suits. Photobucket is down....

I've worn my SD with a suit plenty of times, but I am starting to realize that just because I can doesn't necessarily mean I should.
The knurled-up bezel, the big lugs and the overall chunkiness of the divers just doesn't mesh well with the clean lines of a suit, IMHO. Add a French cuff and some links and the look just gets way too busy for me. But I get it. You've spent a decent change on your watch, aint nobody telling you when, where and how you can wear it, even when you know it doesn't go. Justify it how you want to, there are no rules in this game. Heck, rock an Invicta with a tux if that's what you fancy - you'll get weird looks but no one can argue if you rock it with confidence. |

yeah, it has a very 'scuba'd to the event with your dinner suit on underneath your wet-suit' look about it
