Maybe you can get them here for a good enough price to afford both? If not, I would go sub because of your age, and I think the sub makes a better first rolex.

Sub Date. I went without a date watch for awhile thinking it wouldn't bother me. It did. Also, the DateJust will be more noticeable than the Sub. Honestly, think about before you became obsessed with watches. How many did you actually notice without staring blatantly at it? You win with any decision. You're 29 and able to afford a Rolex.

Another buying a Rolex for the sake of buying a Rolex. If you don't even know what you want, how can we strangers know what is best for you ?
Figure out what you want first, then go buy it. |

Hi everyone,
many thanks for your warm responses :) I am sorry that I couldn't reply to you guys one by one. the current standing is Sub 16 votes and DJ2 13 votes. upon reviewing your comments, somehow I become more confident in choosing DJ2, as initially I love this watch and the Sub comes later. however, do you guys have any idea when the new datejust 41 will come in steel version? Ideally i should wait for the newer version of datejust but I just couldn't resist to own it soon the other thing I have in my mind is because I intend to use this watch daily, do you think the DJ2 smooth bezel is durable enough? this is one of the reason of why I think the cerachom bezel of Sub will do better. any smooth bezel daily user here who keen to share their experience? Once again thank you everyone for your recommendation. I will still consider any opinion until my birthday on 28 July! can't wait |

No Sir I am not another one who plan to buy Rolex for the sake of the name. I value Rolex because of their fine product quality (mechanism, finishes, etc) that will suit me as this watch will be my first "real" watch. I wear Seiko 5 Sports currently, it is tough watch as well but I want some upgrade. Additionally, I know what I want as I have done research for the past 1 year. only when it comes to DJ2 and Sub I would like to hear the experts opinion before pulling the trigger. |

Tough choice, if it's your first Rolex, I would get one with the date function.
Especially if you have been craving the Datejust for over a year. |

Buy both!!! I got the sub first but now have the datejust too. Both are great and have their place and both are quintessential rolexs. If I had it to do over it would probably still get the sub first.

Don't worry about the smooth bezel and scratches. Wear the watch and at the end of 5 years send it for service at Rolex. Any scratches will be gone

Both are great choices. Might come down to what is greatest likely use/price-value. Datejust is the dressier watch and it has a date, but I wear a Sub 14060M no date every day and I am in a suit. I prefer what I bought. A Sub C is bigger flashier blingier... Dress in a suit every day = lean to Datejust
Everyday wear occasional/rarely dress in suit =SubC or 11406M |
