Any recommendation for a noob?

So I thought I wanted an Air King 14010.

It turns out the 34mm is just a bit too small for me.

I looked at the Oyster Perpetual, both 36mm and 39mm, but I really want the black dial, and I'm not really fond of the silver or grey.

Does anyone have any recommendations on what model I should look for that may match my dream watch?

These are the things that are important to me, after trying on a few watches at the local AD:

36mm
Black Dial
No date - or, if there is a date, no cyclops. I'm just not a fan of the bubble.
Sticks, no Arabic numerals (the Explorer is close, but I'd prefer lines for every hour, instead of the 3/6/9)
Simple hands, I'd prefer not to have the Mercedes-type symbol on the end
I'm not a fan of the colored dots on the markers, like the blue or green, I like the classic look, just black and silver.
I really don't have a preference on the band, except that it's metal. Same with bezel, no preference.

I know, it sounds very picky and maybe it turns out Rolex isn't the brand for me, but the Air King was perfect except for the size.

Just wondering if maybe there was something else out there that I haven't seen yet, that matches the above? or maybe an older model?

Thanks everyone!

You are describing the 36mm oyster perpetual 116000. This is the current model. I do not believe it comes in black but I could be wrong.

You are describing a Explorer 1. The OP does fit your wish list but does not come with a black dial.

What about Tudor Black bay 36? Well its not stick dials, but dots and sticks, no mercedes hands but snow flake so not entirely "clean". But otherwise ig sounds like the one!

does it have to be a rolex? a Nomos Orion could pretty much cover all your requirements, including size, dial color, sticks, no date, simple hands and no extra colors on the dial?

Thank you all for the suggestions!

The Explorer I seems to be the closest, except for the numbers (3 6 9) and the insignia on the hand. I guess j just have to decide how important having the perfect-watch-for-me is vs. what is out there. The Nomos is nice too, might have to expand my search outside of Rolex. Thank you all for the help, and if anyone else remembers any other options please let me know!

A basic black dialed 36mm DJ - cleave off the cyclops might be a direction to consider.

Consider the 36mm in steel dial with sticks (shown above).

Rolex Cellini perhaps? They do have black dials and date without the cyclops. It's a dress watch tho

Here's something to consider: the perfect watch is a difficult goal to attain. You could spend the rest of your life trying to find it...or, get the thing with the most realistic match to your criteria.

So it sounds to me like the EXP is your best bet. Good luck,

I'd say either the Explorer or the new Tudor BB as stated above should fill the bill. Enjoy the hunt!

Wow, thank you everyone for the input so far, I really appreciate it!

The 116200 Datejust I with the black dial seems to be the closest to what I'm looking for, and I've been googling a bit about what a couple of you mentioned. I saw that a few people have chisled off the Cyclops, which in no way do I have the calm hands to do.

Would an AD do it? Or is that considered a huge no no?

This is the one I've decided on -
