Oscar Pistorius.....1 more year.....duh!!!

1. Manslaughter.....jailed for 5 years.
2. Manslaughter upgraded to non-premeditated murder on appeal.
3. Minimum statutory term of 15 years for non-premeditated murder unless there are "substantial and compelling circumstances".
4. Fired 4 shots into a locked door intending to kill where there was no immediate threat.
5. Upgrade to murder = 1 extra year in jail and spend half the total term of 6 years under house arrest in uncle's 5 star luxury mansion.
6. Pleaded 'not guilty' and fought it tooth and nail and the judge said he showed remorse....
7. African legal system - fail

Justice for sale?

I think he's a nutcase that should be locked up in an asylum, but I'm not a doctor...

Wrong on every level. Bastard (sorry, but he is) should be put away for life. In six years, he'll still be a young man.

I agree. He got off way to leniently for my taste.

I don't recall but did Pistorius beat the murder charge the first time around to end up with the #1 Manslaughter on the list?

Ignored in the above is that unless he receives VIP prisoner treatment and segregation, he's a dead man walking. No desire to go into details and get banned for sinning against PC, but anyone who has an understanding of reality on the ground in that part of the world should be able to put two and two together.

Man does appear to be a nutter though.

I agree with Gnomon. Back in 2014, RSA gang leaders were already threatening a "prison hit" against Pistorius..

There is nothing stopping the jail system giving Pistorius segregation, they do it for others on a daily basis so they can do it for Pistorius. Still that is no excuse to reduce the statutory minimum sentence by 9 years.

As for giving him VIP treatment or he will die in jail, I can't accept that. Sure give him what he needs because of his physical disability, but other than that, he can survive just like anyone else, although there are no silver spoons in the cutlery draw.

Pistorius has already done 10 months in jail (wow that is a lot for murder) and that didn't hurt him, and it was also before the rumored threat...so again that aint a valid excuse.

One thing we can agree on -- his sentence is way too short for a murder conviction

It reminds me of the OJ Simpson case where mistakes were made by the police, public opinion was heavily against the accused but the court found otherwise. The SA legal system used to be excellent with many of the practioners judges in the UK and Queens Counsel. In criminal cases the presumption of "beyond reasonable doubt" applies and as a jury system does not apply one has to believe that there is reasonable doubt. Only 2 people know the real story...a tragedy and the first case I know where the prosecution actually appealed a judges sentence

South Africa has nothing on the US legal system........institutions we used to count on have been politicalized and corrupted to point of banana republic.
