Service plexi vs aftermarket?

Which plexi is the "best" one? I got a service plexi on my 5513. Would a aftermarket lets say from MY be as safe as a service plexi(thinking about bringing it in water etc?)

If fitted correctly, his would be one of the few I would trust. You are always going to be better off going OEM i.e. Rolex, but Michael knows what he is doing and produces a quality product. Keep in mind as well, once fit and pressure tested properly, I would never remove a crystal and then reinsert too many times as they develop micro-cracks and can fail.

If your watchmaker uses one of the many brand name, quality crystals available for your model, and installs it properly, it will be as water-tight as any other.

Proceed with extreme caution with aftermarket crystals. I've been through a nightmare trying to use them. Read my post on this old thread below about the topic. I only ever use Rolex crystals now. Good luck either way.

Agreed; stick to original Rolex parts, especially for something as critical as a crystal. "Suffering for fashion" comes to mind with using off-brand ones just for the look.

FWIW, I recently had one of Michael Young's T19s installed on my 1680 (it arrived from Hong Kong in only a few days, and was able to be installed that afternoon). It was pressure tested, and passed. So, so far, no complaints...and it looks pretty great.

That looks great - just had a look at their site and there's only 1 available under 'crystals' for $250 - I doubt any aftermarket plastic dome is 250 bucks...

Keep an eye on it over time. The original Rolex crystals last for years, and sometimes decades. I don't have experience with MY crystals, but any aftermarket crystals would make me nervous.

That is odd. Here's the exact quote I got from Michael back in early June:

"The price for T19 is USD60 plus Fedex USD33"

Aaron, absolutely. I'm not keen on submerging my old Subs, and I probably tend to be extra-careful with them. That said, I'll certainly keep an eye out for any signs of cracks, or moisture

That's more like it. Maybe he's stopped selling them now, or run out of stock.
$250 must be a genuine Rolex one, but it doesn't even state whether it's new/used.

I too have used his T-19 on my 5512, it also passed a pressure test and I like it very much- here is a pic:
