Daytona-C: closer than I have ever been...

...to owning this wonderful Rolex. One of my AD's called yesterday to let me know that the new Daytona had arrived. Even though it was "spoken for", it was quite pleasing to finally see it on my wrist. Soon, I hope to try on a black dial version, then finalize my purchasing decision.

I wasn't initially interested in the new Daytona but having seen them in the flesh I've ordered a white face to go with my non ceramic black.

Sorry, I know that this has been said before, but I really hope that when my new watch arrives the AD doesn't invite people in to try it on before I collect it!

This is why I always say that I want to see it taken out of its packaging when I go to collect.

I would have to agree with this. I had to do the same with my d-blue waited 6 months but before that the AD had one that was already paid for. Yes, I looked at it and was allowed to touch it but I didnt dare try it on. To me, that is sacrilege and for the owner to experience first no one else.

Did the same with my Omega Snoopy Silver Award, I made him promise to not even take it out of the shipping container!

This is why these watches come with stickers. Sometimes it may impair for one to see exact look out of the watch and how it would look on the one's wrist though
Don't worry if your watch has been already been tried on, you can spray cologne and wash it under tap water as well as wet towel
It's safe to do these treatments ;)

I would suggest that the stickers are to stop scratches actually, not to keep it clean when being worn.

If I am to pay overinflated prices for pieces of metal I think I have the right to at least expect that it is new metal and not something that others, who had no intention to or could not buy, had tried on.

I know that different people on the forum have different ideas about what is 'new'. If I buy something 'new' I want it as close to as it left the manufacturer as possible and that means that I don't want something which has been used as a demonstrator for others to try before I buy. I know that I can take it home and clean it, but I shouldn't have to, after all I bought it 'new' so it shouldn't need cleaning should it!

Just my thoughts.

Where have you ordered from? Have they advised of an ETA?

Shows how different we are

I left mine at my AD for a week so they could show other clients waiting for a Ceramic 500.

Have to agree I could care less provided the watch is not mishandled or damaged in any way. These aren't ancient artifacts.

I glad I can't make up my mind. Black or white. Gives things a chance to calm down.

It definitely does, fortunately. I owned a 116520 black dial and flipped it after 6 months bc it looked really small on my wrist. The white 116520 looked like a woman's watch on me. The 500C is perfect size on me!!!!

I've come full circle on the white-vs-black face. I liked the white face more at first from photos. Then I saw the real-life photos of the black face and decided that was what I wanted. Now in back to wanting the white face. I'll probably change my mind again 2-3 times in the two years before I can buy one though.

I can understand this, especially with such a hot new item. However I think it's unreasonable to assume when buying a watch you are the first one to put it on your wrist. Most "new" cars come with more than 0 miles on the odo. If you've bought clothes or shoes off the rack they've probably been tried on before.

If you've ever gone to an AD and tried on watches and not purchased then you've essentially just done for someone else what you wouldn't want for yourself.

Personally, as someone holding off on their next Rolex purchase, I just want to see and feel the Daytona to make sure I'm not passing on some other good opportunities while I wait. I would love for nothing more than for a dealer to let me see someone else's for a few minutes to make sure for myself if it's worth waiting for.

End of the world, probably not.

Is it Preferred that I get an unworn, fully sealed, new watch from my AD? ABSOLUTELY!

Agree totally. Generic question not directed to anybody specific but: Was your wife a virgin the first time you "tried her on?"

I see your point, but then again I didn't specifically order, or pay for, a virgin from the women factory when I was going to get married.
