1978 Rolex OysterDate Precision 6694 - 1225. Does this look right to you??

Hi, first post, just a question for the experts. Is this Rolex right? Shouldn't the hands have black lume instead of white with this dial? The sweep hand looks too short. Anything else weird about it?

the hands look fine. this is a very common model and loads of almost perfect re-dials are out there so aside from a decent price from a dealer you should get a guarantee that the dial is indeed original. honestly i see no advantage to buying one of these that was re-worked and polished by a dealer and on a leather strap as there are a gazillion examples to be found on their original oyster bracelets for $900 to $1200. lastly watch out for worn out crown and tube threads as these are manual winders and must be unscrewed and screwed down daily when worn.

But I like the strap (hides face in shame). And all the other gazillion 6694s that I've seen for sale on the Internet look like they have been run over by a truck and they still cost $1,500.

Ah, well. I have a mint Model 16233 Datejust, Gold/Steel Jubilee bracelet from 1990 but when I wear it I look like the owner of a night club. I was looking for something a bit more subdued, hence the 6694.

I'll keep looking but unless there is a secret stash of minty non-perpetuals out there, I think I'm out of luck.

you make me chuckle with your tongue-in-cheek reply and i like your style! BTW two-tone datejusts are my all time favorite rolex and beat out our sports models any day. maybe i'm just a wanna-be porn star?

anyways don't be in a big rush to find your manual wind precision as i'm willing to bet one will pop up soon enough that will catch your eye and for a very reasonable price. we get loads of them here in these tropical island and will keep you in mind. as an aside...have you thought about going for an older SS tudor either automatic or manual wind? very reasonably priced and quite subdued for those nites when you want to fade into the crowd at the nite club

Thanks for your thoughts! I will look for an older Tudor as well but I'm a typical guy and we are always in a hurry for our toys. We want them now!!

A lot of auctions for these old watches (6694, 6426) go up on eBay and end up going for great prices. This particular watch I would pass on, no bracelet and as you said the hands are wrong.

hold out for an auto ,,, you will be thankful you did after the novelty of winding wears off . that took me about two days ,,, lol
