Welcome.

Are you looking at a new/unworn 114060? These are two very different pieces, the SD and SubC. I had the 114060 and flipped it fairly quickly, did not warm up to the larger case/lugs. The glidelock and ceramic bezel are fantastic though.
The 16600 SD wears better on me, so I'd take that in a heartbeat over the SubC, provided it has box and papers and is near mint.

I sometimes see mint 16600 pieces with box and papers going for close to (within $300-$400) what you can purchase a new 114060 for, so I understand the dilemma.

Your best bet, if you haven't already, is to try both on side by side if possible and see which appeals to you more and feels the best.

Thanks for the replies gents
Still kinda torn ..
I'm in Vegas and have tried on the NDC and the SD4k but I think it would be hard to find a 16600 to try !
Tons of ads around here but given that the SD
At least that one is out of production, I have to kinda rest assured it's gonna wear like the 4K , right ?

I have tried on older subs and to be honest the bracelet clasp .. Turned me off big time ..

The clasp bracelet on my Oris and Aquaracer felt miles ahead of those ,
Just feeling a little apprehensive to spend this kinda money on something that has cons I will think about after wards !

Sorry to ramble , I'm just excited to be in Grail territory:)

Sea Dweller, for me a far classier watch. I find the ceramic Sub just plain ugly. I sold mine.....

16600 by mile. I can't think of a modern Rolex reference I'd choose over that watch.

Totally agree! To me, the 16600 has perfect balance, perfect size, perfect proportions, perfect weight. The dial is superb and clean, with a bonus date window sans the Cyclops. Oh and those lovely, beautiful lug holes!!

Tried on the 114060, and I just didn't like how it looked. The case looked too wide and flat and the maxi dial is too ostentatious for me. Don't get me wrong, the bracelet and clasp are pure perfection. Thankfully I don't buy watches on the bracelet's merits alone.

I feel like Rolex went against the styling of the Subs/dwellers of yore on the new subs. They used to evoke a sense of subtle ruggedness; classic and handsome tool watches; definitely didn't pander to the bling. The new ones are still great watches, with even greater technological advances. The style just isn't my cup of tea, and I'm completely ok with that.

Your views may vary, but since you're debating between 2 beloved pieces, I doubt you'll have regrets either way. Post pics or it never happened!!

Wow mixed bag of responses !
I thought I was gonna get more votes for the SD
Should I expect to pay more for one or the other ? If both are gently used and both have box and papers !

You asked abut the feel on the wrist of the 16600 vs the SD4k.... While I've never tried them on back to back, the case back on both (height) is very similar if not identical. The difference lies in the total weight of the piece, the SD4k being a heavier feel due to the solid bracelet, but by no means objectionable.

As for the pricing on both, used and complete set and in excellent condition....the 16600 will be slightly but not much less than a 114060. The SD4k (used) is basically going to run around $400-$800 more than a brand new 114060. All of this is based on what I see here on the forum, so these numbers will differ if you're looking to source one or the other locally at a retailer.

I could be a bit off on the numbers, if others see differently please correct me.

Well, to be fair, I meant compared to current Rolex watches, and I still prefer older subs to the 16600, but the 16600 would be my second choice. Fantastic watch.

Thanks Elkaholic

Oh man
I'm totally ready to pull the trigger but not sure on what one ...
The idea of aluminum and possible scratches on my Grail would freak me out ...
And the ceramic sounds so much more worry free !
But I love the case shape and heft of the SD

The sea dweller wins imo. I love the 114060 but ultimately decided on hunting down a 14060m since I got a lvc already. The SD fits the wrist better and is a better diver compared to a sub. The only way I'd pick the 114060 is if it's an awesome deal or you must have ceramic bezel.

I'm not the expert on 16600's but aren't they the same as the 166600's except for the ceramic bezel? I think the case height, lugs, etc are the same. Though the 6 digit bracelet is probably more robust.

For your dilemma I'd say as much as I like the SD, I think the bracelet improvements the 6 digits offer are substantial. My recommendation is the SubND. There really is no wrong choice... That's the good news.

You might be able to find a 16600 at Tourneau in the shops at Caesar's. (I am not a fan of that particular retailer, but if they have a preowned one to try on, it might be helpful.)

Between the two choices, I have to go SD. It's a fantastic piece. 👍

Nope. The lug shape is still a bit different, and the dial size is different. The date window looks too inset on the SD4K, IMO. I prefer the older bracelets/clasps, too, primarily due to weight.

Thanks good idea about the forum shops at Caesars Palace , maybe I can swing by tomorrow and take a gander .. Urgh man
On one hand , something tells me that a nice 16600 will be hard to come by more often than a nice pre loved SUBCND ..
Maybe start off with a classic and eventually get a modern maxi or just jump right into today and go 6 digit !!!
I dunno 😑

I have both - both are excellent - the 16600 feels a little more top heavy but not to a point where its a problem! The SubC with the bigger case takes a little getting use to but once you reach that point, it feels superb. Its also the only one from the current range I wear, having flipped a few others including the SDC. You really cannot go wrong with either - both extremely well designed and built, with the SubC having an edge in terms of the bracelet. Only you can really decide - good luck!

Lots of differing opinions on this...but in the end, to me anyway, it's all about the fit. You are after all, going to wear it (at least I hope so ), so that would point to the more adjustable bracelet with fewer permanent links and glide lock clasp of the subc. Good luck,

I think you need go with a brand new in box for your first Rolex. Sub C ND is a perfect daily all-arounder. IMO you want your first Rolex to be one you hang on to and it's pretty nice to have a time only piece to pick up and set whenever. The SD 4K fits much different than the 16610, at least IMO. SD4 is a much heavier feeling piece with the solid end links. Glidelock will help though. 114060 offers a slim profile and Glidelock so going to be easiest to get the best fist out of the 3. They're all comfortable pieces though, the new models are just a bit heavier on th wrist.
