crown tightness
hi all' just want to ask how to know when a screw-down crown is secure, tight enough? i always worrie that i am going to over tighten it. is there a general rule of tightening a watch crown? i have heard so many horror stories of watch crowns threads being stripped not so many with Rolex but essentially with omegas. thanks for any help.

I just twist mine until its snug and reaches its natural stopping point, I don't over pressure it.

Finger tight, you'll deform the seals.

Finger tight.
But if you feel you've crushed the seal abit leave the crown loose for a few days youll find the seal will settle back to its original position. |

Tighten it finger tight until it stops, then you stop. It is not like the lid on a jar of pickles that you need to crank down, it is a simple gasket that only needs to contact the top of the threaded tube. The actual "seals" are o-rings inside the watch around the stem that are always sealing..

I snug it ever so slightly past finger-tight. Haven't had to wind it or reset the time in months; crown stays solid where it is through a summer's worth of dips in the pool. Rolex doesn't fool around with crown seals. I say, set it and forget it

Thats correct its not supposed to be metal to metal contact with the case, the seal is inside the winding crown that seals the crown tube stem.
