GMT Master Service
My GMT Master needs service - it's been years and definitely needs cleaning (losing 10' per day - if it keeps running at all). Called the dealer where I purchased by GMT Master N16700 Pepsi in 1996, who I trust. They are no longer an AD, but do send out Rolex watches to and "independent certified Rolex repair shop," the name of which he wouldn't give to me (likely to get his cut). I believe they were using this same shop years ago when I had the watch serviced, and they did a nice job with it. But, since he wouldn't give me the name, who knows? Cost is $600 for full service. Should I go this route - or take it to an AD (there is a Tudor Shop in King of Prussia mall or Govberg jewelers near Philly who are ADs) to ship it to NY or Dallas to a known Rolex authorized service center? I love this watch and want the work done right. Appreciate opinions from you!

Getting your watch serviced through the dealer where you purchased it seems reasonable enough on the face of it but since he will not tell you who is actually doing the work this would be a red flag for me. Since you don't know who is doing the work, neither do you know what they will actually do and what shortcuts they might take to keep costs down. Personally, I would go with Dallas RSC - you know what you are getting and you eliminate the middle man.

Dont see $600 being too much less than what RSC would charge you, would suggest RSC as well

Call the Dallas RSC, they'll tell you how to ship it, and send you a shipping container. You have to do it how they say or they'll refuse it. You can't just fedex overnight to the RSC. If it doesn't go registered as per their instructions, you'll be getting it back and doing it again the right way

I've had my Submariner serviced at Rolex NY, my Sea-dweller at Rolex Japan, when I lived there and just got my vintage GMT Master fully serviced by Official Time Watch. I had so much better service from OTW. Have Leo give you a quote.

I'd only send mine through the Dallas RSC.

RSC all the way based on the AD response.

Go the RSC way, price difference is marginal, your watch will come back looking brand new and you'll receive official Rolex service papers which are added value and a two year international guarantee.

On a modern watch you gotta go with RSC. They do the best work.

$600 doesn't seem cheap to me. I wouldn't send my watch anywhere else besides RSC regardless of price except my 1675. I definitely won't send my watch anywhere because it's "cheaper". So yeah RSC all the way.
