Seller is asking for sales tax

I found a seller here on TRF that is located within 40 miles away from me, both of us being in Southern Cali. He has a watch for sale listed here at a great price so I offered to purchase at $100 dollars lower than what he's asking for with a Face-to-face cash meet up.

I am now being told that I would have to pay a sales tax because he is a store and we are both in the same State. Unless he ships the watch out of state, I will have to pay a sales tax on that watch.. which is not cheap. =(

Obeying the law would be a start.

Move out of California - there are many other good reasons.

what's he supposed to do? sounds like he is doing the right thing and same that any other reputable seller would do for an in-state sale.

Book a room in vegas and have it shipped there. Cost you 40 bux in gas and it will give you an excuse to do a vegas trip.

Exactly, some people obey the law and some constantly try and find a way around it...I would rather do busness with a guy who obviously obeys the law.

It has been said he will charge tax and then pocket it...hmmm, only people who do that would even say someone else would.

Well, I believe the same is true for in-state purchases for most any state with sales tax.

Might as well go to his shop since it's only 40 miles away. Have the whole experience, see what else he's got.

I don't think that's right about FL not imposing sales tax on used items.

If you were in NJ, they expect the difference between the sales tax you paid and the 7% charged here if it is lower. He is just trying to meet the requirements of the law.

NH has no sales tax and no income tax. Extra cash in pocket for more watches

Sucks but that is the CA sales tax law. If you had a second address out of state you would probably not have to pay that in state tax. Not the sellers fault.... blame your wonderful state.
