Icon20 GMT hands-silver and black??

I've been studying the GMT lately and have noticed a trend among various sites selling vintage models: Sometimes the hands are black and sometimes they're silver. I can't figure out the pattern-suspect a lot of aftermarket parts. My question: when did the color change take place? Or is this an optical illusion or lighting issue. Thanks in advance.

I am ignorant to this but perhaps if you could find a picture showing each hand type.

You may just be seeing the dark spot of the photographers head or the camera itself that is reflecting in the hands and they look black.

I think you're correct - lighting issue most likely. If you'll look at sites where there are photos taken from multiple angles, the hands definitely look different especially in the SS models.
